hmm, i'm hoping i just got a faulty one - but on its maiden voyage and only in a 160 degree oven it cracked clean in two. hoping the rest of the stoneware fares better. also we noticed the stoneware is all made in thailand and not france as one might think.

As with most of the other comments here the roaster is excellent. Good size, seemly really good non-stick surface (time will tell), really thick walls all round so feels really solid, good sized handles make getting it to and from the oven really easy. The rack is well a rack, not much more to say really but a really big bird probably wouldn't sit well on it. As for the width, yep it's 39cm inc the handles. It wouldn't fit in my oven but i knew this before ordering. When it arrived i simply placed one of the handle ends on a rug (to stop it from slipping) and lent on the other end then did the reverse. Result, fits fine now and is none the worse for wear with minimal effort. For £23 you just can't go wrong, buy it!

I have to honestly say that this is the most valuable for money roster with rack i have seen because the quality is fantastic and heavy duty with Xmas coming i know this will get alot of usage, to be not just Xmas all year round so need to go paying over the odds for a brand name roaster. If you are thinking of buying this as a present i highly recommend it so get yours before it's too late...

My wife bought this to replace an enamel roasting tin for average sized meals which we had for 15 years. Firstly this is way too big, most chickens look lost inside it. Then it just takes so much longer to cook things in than our previous one, I mean up to an hour or we have to turn the oven up to get things to cook. Also, the hands are in an awkward place to hold when lifting the tin out of the oven. We are looking a replacement, an enamel one at a fraction of the cost. This one is not a recommended buy, poor design, lack of thoughtfulness, back to the drawingboard for me Viners.

I agree with the previous review completely, in that it's a great value roaster and really does improve the flavour and texture of a cheap roasting joint by slow roasting in it's own juices (a must for shoulder of lamb or beef brisket!) But there's a really bad downside and that is that the pan has no handles so getting it out of the oven when it's hot is a real pain in the rear. The lid sits on top of the bottom, rather than inside it, so you can't grab the top edge, so you sort of have to wiggle it forward and eventually stabilize your hold by holding the underside. It's a real shame that this wasn't thought of a little bit better because it really is an ace roaster in every other respect.
