...but at this price it's a steal. I bought this after considering hiring a machine until I realized I would have to do the whole house in a weekend and would probably kill myself in the process. My initial attraction was that it does hard floors too and as I have three cats cleaning the utility room and kitchen is a daily chore for me. I tried it there first with amazing results and used the hose attachment to do the corners and surfaces. Brilliant. It cleaned and sucked up any stray pet hairs leaving the kitchen remarkably clean. I leave it 'ready-to-go' for this task permanently. When you need to clean the carpets though, be prepared for the shock of seeing the black furry sludge that it will extract from your carpets! ... I will keep this brief and to the point. The item does not have any rotating brushes (something I should have noted before purchasing it). There is a "static brush bar" on the underside, but that is pretty useless. Because of this, all the device does really is squirt out the water/detergent mix and then suck it back up again. And to be clear, it doesn't even suck up much of the water. This is probably because the suction bit near the front does not press down against the carpet firmly enough to be effective. I have given it "two stars" because the hand held attachment did manage to get a good amount of grime out, but that required that I scrub the carpet rigorously with the small static brush mounted within the handheld bit. Vax V-124 Dual V Upright Carpet Washer Just bought this machine while it is about half price!What a bargain! I know November is not the ideal time to clean carpets but I couldnt wait. The machine is fabulous my carpets came up so clean & when I saw what had come out ---well!!With 2 dogs you can imagine. It is easy to operate - I would just advise to go easy on the "trigger" or the carpet gets too wet. Also quite heavy & very noisy & the carpets do remain damp but guess better to use on a nice warm sunny day! I am however delighted with the machine & recommend it - cheaper than professional prices!

this mop is amazing since buying this everyone i know has asked where they can get one. and they even do it for me. eco friendly too. so easy to use and does a very good job. dont know how anyone can give this a bad rating.

I purchased the Vax V-026 Rapide Deluxe Carpet Washer in Sept 2007. In June 2008 I used it for the first time to clean liv/din room carpet.The carpet is a very light fawn it had no marks on it and i only cleaned it to freshen it up. The result was very good and I was well pleased The second time it was used to remove a spillage, the filter fell to pieces so I had to buy a new pack, I fitted the new filter and after 20 minuets the motor blew up leaving a black dust deposit on the carpet. It has now been with VAX appointed local service agent for five weeks and still no sign of a new motor from Vax. Vax V-123 Agilty Upright Carpet Washer I have only used this machine once so maybe I need a little more practice but I was very disappointed with the performance. The washing action is excellent and the brushes really bring up the pile of the carpet. However I think I may have put down too much liquid as the carpets remained wet for days. There was also very little liquid in the retrieval tank - I don't know if I have a fault with the machine or whether the suction is not as good as the old VAX units. I purchased the machine to also deal with spillages and on this showing I don't think it will be very efficient. I will try it out again and maybe use less liquid this time but my first attempt was very disappointing.

This is a great little machine. Very impressed considering the low price on this item. Can quickly shampoo a carpet with no more effort than using a vacuum cleaner.

Bought this carpet cleaner a few months ago and, as far as the machine itself is concerned, I am fairly pleased with the purchase. No, it is not a miracle worker and if you are faced with rather grubby carpets (moving into a new home, for example), be prepared to shell out quite a lot on shampoo as on deep-clean setting the stuff fairly runs through the machine - forget about the assurances of the sales staff that the 3 bottle pack will be more than enough for a whole house. Also, the edge-to-edge cleaning is a myth; it simply doesn't do it, so you are left with a strip of uncleaned carpet along the walls. ON THE PLUS SIDE 1) I agree with the other reviewers that the cleaner cleans car upholstery thoroughly but it is not surprising that the water is filthy as most car seats get that way after a year or so and any reasonable wet cleaner will extract lots of muck. 2) I do like the excellent suction which gets most of the water out of the upholstery so that it air dries fairly quickly. ON THE MINUS SIDE 1)The cleaning solution squirts in a fan shape on to the brush on the cleaning tool but unfortunately the jet is wider than the brush so that at the edge of seats the solution sprays where you don't want it.
