I always read reviews prior to buying so thought it about time I wrote one of my own. I have to admit that i have not been a great beleiver in buying the more expensive things in life thinking that lesser money doesn't always mean lesser quality. In this instance I am glad I paid the extra money for a quality item, granted I bought the 50l touch whilst on offer for £45 but having compared the bin to other makes, I was going to buy one from Argos for £24.95, but on viewing the " Chrome effect", I opted for the excellent Brabantia. I feel I must also give a big thumbs up to Amazon, the first bin arrived with a big dent, I rang customer services who sent me a shiny new one within 24 hrs and then gave me 30 days to have the damaged ... I bought one of these last Christmas, just a few months ago. The lid is fastened by a molded pin that projects from a plastic collar that fits into the lid assembly. When I first saw this, I though "no way will that last five minutes" - and I was right. My bin lid no longer shuts. Worse still, the plastic insert that fits into the lid doesn't have flush edges. The edges are very heavily recessed so that they get bunged up will all kinds of waste. For something that's designed (Ha!) to carry waste, that a bit odd. It's very unhygenic and is a pain to clean because it's too small to get a cloth in there. You have to gouge it out with a kitchen knife. Heh heh heh, after dozens of `entertainment' reviews it's fun to write over the top hyper-boyle for a kitchen bin. But what a kitchen bin ladies and gentlemen, what a kitchen bin! It features a space age `peddle action', which causes the lid to open with the merest press of your foot, or what ever else you might have handy for pressing peddles at a low level. It has a plastic bucket inside which you can easily remove with the included handle. Perfect for..... cleaning I suppose (not really sure what the bucket feature is fore, but it's nice). I have spent a lot of time, effort, researching and testing of bins, especially of recycling bins. The Brabantia Twin Bin gets my 10 out of 10 marks for efficiency, simplicity, ease of use, reliability and presentation! Each bin is ample in its capacity for a busy household, saving you from having to constantly empty bins because of perishables or smells. I use the green, slightly shorter bin for my perishables and change when it is full or smelly, usually every other day. The "other stuff" gets changed often only once a week.
