Out of the box this is a very elegant looking machine compared to most ice cream makers. I had a Philips one some years ago and this unit is no noiser than that, they all seem to make some noise due to the gearing. Freeze the ice bucket in your freezer for 24 hours and its ready. Put on the lid with the paddle and motor and away it goes, pour your mixture in and freezing begins immediately. If the mixture actually freezes completely the machine changed direction to remove the blockage, hence the gearing noise I suspect. In around 15 minutes or less I had lovely frozen yoghurt. My daughter had one of these for her 13th birthday recently. She has made various icecreams with it which are lovely. It is easy to use and doesn't require loads of ingredients to make something really tasty. The thing that I really like about it that you know the end product is made with natural ingredients and the 'fruity taste' is superb!

my family loves ice cream, but i am acutely aware of the rubbish and additives that goes into the mass produced stuff, so i'd been looking to buy a home machine for a while. when i saw this monster i had to have it - nearly bought it from amazon (they are the cheapest on the 'net) but my local cook shop had a deal on so i got it from there. it is an impressive piece of kit, heavy, robust and pretty noisy - but the ice cream is better than the shop bought stuff - and the healthy frozen yoghurt is tops - i totally recommend this machine. don't waste your money on cheaper machines, or fussy ones (gaggia and magimix), this is the one!

Excellent, this works really well and does an excellent job of scooping even very frozen ice cream. Very tough and no chance of breaking. It is cheap but well made. DON'T WASH IN A DISHWASHER AS IT WILL LOSE IT'S SPECIAL COATING AND NEVER WORK AS WELL AGAIN!! But it is easily washed by hand. No need to spend more no need to look elsewhere!

I've had a couple of ice cream scoops in the draw for years but I never bothered using them as they were less effective than a blunt stick. One was a traditional bulky metal design that you were supposed to heat up in a bowl of hot water first, but who can be bothered with that?! The other was a more modern sleek design with a smaller round head, but it just wouldn't cut through ice cream unless its been left out for 10 minutes first to soften up. The Culinare scoop is a bit of a revelation. The first thing I noticed was how heavy duty it is. It feels really solid, looks nicely manufactured and finished, and the best bit is the comfortable chunky handle which is very easy to grip.
