The water where I am (North Yorkshire) isn't too bad, but whereas many regions in this part of the country have superb (soft) water, my area isn't quite so blessed. I dont drink the tap water, just because of a slight taste and the many bits flying around in the glass when the tap water is poured. Also that slight "film" on the top of cups of tea & coffee is slightly off putting. I have just received this product today, and couldn't be happier. Straight away you can see the glass of water you are drinking is clean and pure, and the taste definitely validates this further. Like many Brita products, this jug carries the digital countdown timer which tells you when you "need" a new Maxtra cartridge. This is very misleading for 2 reasons: 1. It assumes you run way through the jug several times a day (which I don't - I only fill it every other day). 2. It implies that Maxtra cartridges cease to function after 4 weeks of regular use (they don't - I've checked the water quality using a conductivity probe at work - they're good for a fair bit longer than that!). The above two problems can mean you'd spend a fortune on the Maxtra cartridges, which don't come cheap, but if you ignore the timer and change the cartridge when the water starts to taste unfiltered, it's fine. We decided to try and reduce our plastic waste, stop drinking bottled water, and invested in this jug instead. Some people will argue that bottled water is no different to tap water, but I disagree. I know tap water is perfectly safe, but it tastes horrible here in the Midlands. I grew up just thinking I didn't like water, but since I tasted bottled water I drink pints of the stuff. The results from this jug are almost as good - it certainly makes our tap water more than pleasant enough for me to drink. And to top it off, the black/silver colours are an EXACT match with our Morphy Richards Perfection kettle so it looks good in the kitchen too. We've had the kettle for just a few months and it's broken - it won't boil water. The glowing lights are a rather pointless waste of electricity and the lid construction doesn't look robust to me. I won't be buying this brand again.

We have had this for about a month now. Great jug - water filters through fast, the jug fits in the fridge perfectly, nice pourer, sturdy and perfectly sized - any larger capacity and it would be too heavy for me when full. The water tastes great - I remember the old original Brita filter we had making the water taste horrid with a tinge of carbon, but the new filters make a HUGE difference, the water now tastes lovely.
