This product was unable to fully cook the ingredients of a meal, even after many hours on the high setting. Perhaps it was just this particular unit that was defective, but I will search around for a different model. The Amazon.com returns policy, however, is user friendly and they have provided a full refund.

I've been using slow cookers for about 25 years. I got the 48715 last Christmas (2007) and it's been serving this family of four at least once a week since. Like any other kitchen appliance, some common sense in its use will avoid any of the negatives I've read here. A slow cooker is not a 'set-it-and-forget-it' device, and they're not marketed as such. Admittedly the 48715 runs hotter than one might expect, but that's true of most modern slow cookers. In fact the one niggle I have with it is the number of times I've inadvertently touched the hot metal base, but that's me being clumsy. I received this yesterday & have already made (& eaten) 3 1lb loaves. I've found this model very easy to use, I chose this one as it was a 'Which best buy' & compact. Any advice on the paddle? The manual states that it may occassionaly get stuck...I've got a 100% record of digging it out of the bread so far....

I bought this machine for looks and the drop down paddle ( had a breadmaster that made wonderful bread but was getting a new kitchen and so I wanted all my gadgets in stainless steel ( put my breadmaster in the loft n kissed it apologetically). The MR breadmaker boasted a drop down paddle( which never really worked ) 16mths later ( still under guarantee) it stopped kneading and all the recipes I,ve used before were disasters tried once more and it refused to work at all, discovered that tho still under guarantee it would cost me a £15.00 to send back to Morphy Richards and then the guarantee would be from first purchase. After doing a bit of research and checking out what other people had said about this breadmaker I brought one. When I attempted to make my first loaf I was convinced it was going to be a disaster. How wrong was I! It was a complete success! The smell of homemade bread while baking is lovely and the taste is so much better than shop-brought bread. It is so simple to make loaves, rolls or hot cross buns. Even my daughter who has just set up her own home has asked for one for Christmas and she's not an avid cook, she just loves the taste of the bread!

It says that I am the first person to review this product, so here goes. I bought this slow cooker because this is the black version of model 48710 3.5L in stainless steel, which has received rave 5 star reviews. I can compare both models with each other, as I have owned and cooked in both. I first bought the 48710 in stainless steel for my elderly mother, and it certainly lived up to expectations. When it came to replacing mine, I found this black version, which I must say looks very contemporary, and would suit a lot of people's kitchens. Personally, I much prefer the colour, and the fact that it doesn't show any fingerprints, which the model in stainless steel does. I was looking for a bigger slow cooker than the 2 litre one I already had. (My USA slow cooker book recommended a larger one so that you could cook for the freezer.) Well this one seemed twice the size - but it's still not what I'd call big. What I'd recommend you do is to fill a suacepan with water and measure what 3.5 litres actually looks like and whether you need an even bigger one. In this cooker 3.5 litres is nearly to the top of the bowl and some recipes can be a bit bulky until they have cooked a while. This one might be fine for a family of four or as one of a pair (you'll soon realise that two slow cookers is what you'll need for a dinner and a pudding or extra side dishes). Firstly, I don't understand why there are so many positive reviews. I bought this kettle, based on these comments, and it arrived today. (After 2 weeks), and i must say, I am really dissapointed. Its cheap, and nasty. The lid does not close properly, and is very loose. The illuminated section can only be seen if you switch all the lights off and have the kitchen in complete darkness. The base is very flimsy thin plastic. There is the option to keep the cord at a short length, by wrapping it under the base, BUT the cord is so stiff, the base tilts the kettle unless its full of water! As this gift was for my daughter, it's only fitting I give her the last word (and all the others you'll see below) for this review... I have to say, I really like it! I'm one of those people who's proud of the time they spend slaving away over a hot stove to bring together a huge meal for twelve all made from scratch. So, it's a bit of a weird feeling just putting the food in and leaving it! I mean, I don't even have to check it - which is nice, cos my glasses always get cloudy when opening the oven door. complete waste of time. I've had electric blankets all my life, i don't like getting into a cold bed. unfortunatley my usual blanket stopped working after having it for years and i recently purchased this brand. However i returned it the day after. after plugging the blanket in to test it, 5 hours later and the bed was not warm on the higest setting, luke warm i would say if that. no point even having this blanket. it seems if you buy a washable blanket you get less wattage and therfore less heat. go for an electric blanket with more wattage and you will have a warm nighs sleep. i rate the 1st setting for a blanket as on all night and usually no.3 as burn your bum setting (as in quick heat but not all night). this blanket does not get warm in my opinion. very disapointing, ahh sigh...sleeping in a cold bed ...
