10CC were huge in the mid to late 70's. Much like contemporaries ELO they were often overlooked by the more hybrow critics and dismissed as merely Beatles wannabe's. Whilst the Beatle comparisons cannot be denied messers, Godley, Creme, Gouldman and Stewart were an entirely more exciting prospect than Jeff Lynne's mob. Lyrically erudite, musically inventive and all four band members possesed of great voices, 10cc peddled harmony drenched, hugely inventive powerpop and retro rock. At their best they were sublime - 'I'm Mandy, Fly Me', 'Life Is A Minestroni' and 'Rubber Bullets'. This album, by one the most quirky, smart bands that ever existed is a must to own. More melodic than "Sheet Music" and not so cynical as "The Original Soundtrack," this album really signifies the end of the original 10cc. By this time, the Gizmo was included on almost every track and Godley & Creme had realised that to develop it further, they'd have to leave the band. Having said that, this album is a prime example of the "All Killer, No Filler" genre. Buy this! You won't be disappointed!

Once Godley and Creme had split to promote their gizmo project, comparisons between their first album, "Consequences", and this were predictable. Also predictable was that the split diluted the powers of all involved. Godley and Creme's unrestrained ambition initially led to them drowning in twaddle. This effort, in contrast, lacked their subtle wit and invention, but it still scored heavily because Stewart and Gouldman retained the knack of conjuring up memorable hooks. They scored two big hits and maintained a high production standard, taking the utmost care with each track. This is one of those albums that just grabs you. Absolutely superb lyrics and musicianship although the jokes are a wee bit hard to get for the uninitiated! Seriously up there among the best ever albums.

Like some of the other reviewers for this album, I had the vinyl when I was young. I liked it but it was only when I listened to it with older ears that I realised how truly brilliant it was/is - I 'got' the references and jokes; but more than that, I was able to immerse myself in the nostalgia and wistfulness of songs like 'Somewhere In Hollywood' and 'Old Wild Men', and see how hilarious (but still rockin'!) 'Worst Band In the World' (wonder if Malcolm McLaren listened repeatedly to this song...) and 'Silly Love' are. Clever without being pretentious, they were four talented musicians and songwriters who couldn't put a foot wrong - if you haven't at least listened to their first four albums (before Godley and Creme departed) you're missing out on some of ... It's a great double album (showing my age I know). Taken off the Deceptive Bends tour who knew 10CC could continue minus half the Strawberry Studios foursome. When Godley & Creme left everyone thought the cc's were done. However not only did Gouldman & Stewart come up with the great DB album they also left us this great live performance(s). And then came Bloody Tourists, stunning. Alas after that things went downhill. Far better IMHO than the King Biscuit Flower Hour cd of the "original 10". Also miles ahead of the Alive cd done in the 90s when they weren't quite yet a nostalgic pub band. Buy it, you won't be disappointed.

I bought this when it came out and immediately wished I hadn't. It is very poor, even without the poor remastering mentioned elsewhere. I think I listened to it once all the way through. It was horrible. Dreadlock Holiday was catchy but that was it. If you want the best of 10cc, buy the first two albums.

An encyclopaedic 33-track double disc overview of all things 10cc covering everything from the songs Graham Gouldman wrote in the mid-60s for the likes of The Hollies, the definitive 1972-76 line-up, to Godley and Creme's solo work and even Gouldman's one-hit wonders from the 80s Wax. Seeing that the group were famously named after the average volume of issue produced in the procreative act I am legally obliged to refer to this as a seminal release. It is too. There will never be another band quite like 10cc and this 3 CD set illustrates why. Not in any particular order, the 51 tracks on these discs played end to end is quite an experience and you soon realise what an incredible body of work they have left behind. I can't recommend this collection strongly enough - suffice to say it sounds fantastic and as good today as it was when 10cc started all those years ago. Quality from start to finish. (And whats more, you get Feel The Benefit (1, 2 & 3) mastered at the correct speed unlike that which appears on the slapdash Greatest Hits...and More). Buy this (with confidence) now!
