An improvement over "I Can't Stop" and "Everything's OK". Excellent collaborations. Still not quite as good as his work in the 1970s (is Al Green the top male soul singer ever ?). Recommended to old and new fans.

I brought this album for one purpose and one purpose only 'Let's Stay Together'
I didn't know who sang it because I was an 80's baby raised in the 90's it was before my time, but eventually found out that Al did.
After owning this album 2 months now I have been gripped by Al's presents on the mic, I now have 15 favorite songs on the album, they don't call it greatest hits for nothing!!
I feel so strongly about this album because when ever I hear it, it just makes me feel good, I literally have a smile on my face throughout the album!!
I have an ultimate favorite, but it was hard to pick with great songs like 'Simply Beautiful' 'Sha La La' 'Tired of Being Alone' and 'How Can You Mend a Broken Heart' getting in the way, but 'L.O.V.E.' ... Read More:

After seeing four of Al's albums for under 8 pounds i couldn't resist and wasn't dissapointed. Theres hours of smooth r 'n' b to listen to, classic's like 'lets stay together' and 'love and happiness'. Also less well known songs such as 'I'm a ram' and 'true love'. My favourite album has to be 'gets next to you' with its slightly more funky and upbeat rythmn. Its a great bargain which you can't miss out on if you like this kind of music.

Starting with "Call Me" this set tracks Al Green in the middle phase of his Hi career. As a huge fan of the man I collected all these on Vinyl (and still have them), and for me he represents everything that was good about Soul in the late 60's and early 70's.

By this stage, he had established something of a blueprint for an Al Green album - the loping relaxed rythym section and the metronome beat, courtesy of the Hodges Brothers and producer Willie Mitchell.

"Call Me" is a Soul album, but shows a very clear link to Country music, not surprising since both have their roots in the South. Al is on fine self pitying form on "So Lonesome..." and "Funny How Time Slips Away" . There are a couple of hits here, but no showstopping cover, something ... Read More:

As the 70's dawned, much was changing in R&B and Soul. Amongst other things, the 3 minute single formula which suited radio plays was being challenged as artists focused on producing albums and both of the dominant Black music labels (Motown and Stax) had experienced upheaval.

Into this world dropped "Lets Stay Together", with it's Southern Soul roots well in evidence, but with signposts to Al Green's later status as a Soul superstar. Al Green had found his feet as another Sam Cooke or Otis Redding, but once he had hit his stride with this album, there was no looking back for him, or for Hi records, which would become a Memphis powerhouse.

Al was responsible for writing or co-writing 7 of the 9 tracks, including the title track, which was a monster ... Read More:

In the late 60's and early 70's, Soul was primarily about the single release. Al Green, with Willie Mitchell and the Hodges brothers, put together a series of 45 releases which must rank as most consistent and the finest ever to appear.

Starting with his take on a Beatles standard and running through the peak of his popularity (71-74), the set takes you up to the first "retirement" when Al decided he could no longer deny his Religious beliefs

What do you get? - well you get the full story of the musical progression that took place, the fledgling style evident on the early sides. Heard all together the genius that was Al Green is crystal clear.

The best known tunes need no introduction but if even if you have all the albums releases from the period ... Read More:
