The Alarm were a talented and original band (1981-1991) who regrettably didn't - or, better say, weren't allowed - to break through to "the Big Time". music critics in the UK were variously hostile towards their music, not to say racist towards them (2 members were Welsh, some years before the Cool Cymru decade). but their loyal fans always knew better, and their gigs were lively events. the band cut many excellent songs which sound as raw and fresh today as they ever did. mike peters, the talented front man of the band, wrote 99 per cent of the Alarm's material, and went on to write many fine songs as a solo artitst. he is, i contend, the Welsh Bruce Springsteen.

The Alarm's classic 1984 breakthrough album was originally released on IRS records following two huge UK/US hits, '68 Guns' and 'Where Were You Hiding When The Storm Broke?'. The original album charted at number 6 in the UK before selling 500,000 copies in America after being described as a 'brilliant' album by Rolling Stone Magazine. 'Declaration' has been remastered by lead singer Mike Peters and collects all The Alarm's hit singles and recorded material from the years 1984-1985, including two non album British only hit singles 'Absolute Reality' and 'The Chant Has Just Begun'. After 24 years quite simply still the most entertaining live band. This DVD combines all the favorites. While not the original line up, front man Mike Peters still comands the stage as well as he ever did, with a curent line up of some of the best musicians in the business. This Cd is an absolute must for any serious rock n roll music lover , The opening track the road really kicks in and is agreat song to listen to whilst crusin down the road , then kicks on through the fantastic unsafe building , the smash hit 68 guns and through all the bands other greatest songs including the Lennon cover of Happy Xmas ( war is over ) - this cd really captures the power and the passion of one of the eighties most underrated bands - highly recommended

It has taken me 10 years to actually buy an Alarm record, despite being a huge punk and new wave fan and i'm amazed at how good this album is! Mike Peters has always been someone I respected but the clarity of his vocals, the brilliant flowing lyrics and the robust angst-rock sound make this an absolute classic. The big hit " Spirit of 76" is an epic, nostalgic tribute to the punk glory days which inspired the band, "Dawn Chorus" is a mix of folky verses and anthmenic choruses whilst "The Day The Ravens Left The Tower" is my favourite..with portentous lyrics..images of faraway london burning ( if you are from North Wales) and a nursery rhyme ending. The aLarm are the most criticised and under rated band of my generation. Mike Peters has put together a new Cd that would kick the backsides of many a new rock/metal/thrash/punk etc etc. band This is a fine wine coming of age, as it's songwriter fights his own cancerous attack. As with all fine wines you get flavours of what lies behind the immediate taste. Under Attack! provides a full bodied trip to pogo heaven and back. YES!THE ALARM HAVE DONE IT!!! They manage to provide the taste of a band that has been going for over 25 years( with changed personnel) They provide the spirit of 76 and beyond, with tastes of The Ramones, THE CLASH,The Who, Springsteen and the many bands Mike Peters has cited as influences throughout his song writing career. ... In the light of U2's recent success drawing to a fair degree on their early sound, I was excited at the prospect of a new Alarm album. 'Declaration' (their first album from the early '80's)is one of the greatest post-punk albums of all time. The now legendary stories surrounding '45RPM' also created a buzz about this album. It was released under the psyudonym 'The Poppyfields' to avoid possible media prejudice about an old band (The Alarm) releasing new material and even came with a video which showed a younger band miming to the song. Always in search of the weird and wonderful but equally wary of futile novelty, my discovery of this surprising musical experiment demanded a listen. But could this New York chamber group translate some of the most groundbreaking, demented and thoroughly noisy experimental electronica into an acoustic format? Yes, yes, yes! And wonderfully so. Even the most furiously percussive challenges are an absolute triumph. The only other musicians I could conceive of living upto this damn near impossible challenge would have been The Kronos Quartet, but even then they would have had to expand their instrumentation. If you liked the staccato sounds of Clogs on their avant-chamber masterpiece 'Stick Music', or if you enjoy the sonic persecution of Penderecki, Lygeti, or the more palatable Bartok ... Read More:
