I got this CD for my brother in law, not knowing who they where. He said that i must know the track 'A Horse with no Name', but I didn't know what he was on about (I'm a few years younger than him).
Once he played me the CD I did know the track, along with a few others. So I decided to buy it to, as it's a great chilling CD. Real Sunny Sunday afternoon music that will appeal to old and young.

I got this CD for Christmas on the basis that my wife must have seen it in my 'Items Recently Viewed' section on Amazon (good old Amazon!) and bought it for me as a stocking filler. Psychedelia is such a broad term - if I could define it then maybe I could write about music for a living - how exciting that would be! However all of the elements of quality 'psyche' are here for all - trippy lyrics, ethereal effects, fuzzy guitars, eastern elements - and here too we have the superb vocal skills of Dorothy Moskowitz. There is a lot of experimentation on this album (some great and very informative sleeve notes give a good background) but fortunately with the experiments come good tunes too. There is variation in styles and mood - dreamy, haunting ballads, ... Read More:

Looking forward to seeing this band showcase the new album at the Roundhouse in Camden this w/e. Notwithstanding their constant touring, America sound less laid back on record than in recent years, and more like they're really trying on this one.

Longtime fans will recognise the classic light and breezy America songwriting template at work ('Indian Summer' could stand up against the classic hits of their day). The song palette is carefully varied, with Gerry Beckley and Dewey Bunnell swapping vocal duties on tracks that suit their strengths. Guesting musicians have breathed some new life into the band, who rock out on a few numbers - enjoyed 'Always Love', 'Look at me Now' and bonus track 'The Glass King'.

Fans of Beckley ballads ... Read More:

Very good compilation of work by a somewhat enigmatic band. There are touches of greatness on here such as 'A Horse With No Name', 'Ventura Highway', 'Tin Man', 'Daisy Jane' and 'Sister Golden Hair' interspersed with some reasonably insipid material that occasionally borders on the appallingly sickly (Muskrat Love) though not all of the bad material was written by 'America' admittedly. The good stuff makes up for some of the hippie-dippie material and it's worth picking up for the wonderful harmonies alone...

Remember the seventies, when the charts were filled with classic songs such as Horse with no name? Now we have a Christmas album from the duo who had that international hit (though they were then a trio) featuring ten familiar Christmas songs and three new songs. With Andrew Gold (another name from the seventies) as producer and multi-instrumentalist, fans of seventies pop music will enjoy this. The set opens with Winter wonderland, which even reminds us of their biggest hit with its arrangement. Other tracks here also provide reminders of their seventies hits.

The group sticks to the festive side of Christmas for the first eleven tracks then rounds off the album with Silent night and First Noel. All the other oldies have been recorded countless times except ... Read More:

AMERICA have long been maligned: CROSBY, STILLS & NASH copyists; light-weight EAGLES. Soft Rock meanderers. A Rolling Stone compendium was dismissive enough to give their whole studio album catolgue 1* (excluding their greatest hits), implying that apart from the radio friendly hits they have nothing further to offer. This throwaway review could not be further from the truth.

AMERICA, when they hit the mark, create a back-porch sensibility which is both timeless and refreshing. Probably the best example of this is their debut album AMERICA which doesn't suffer from the sometimes treacley over production of the George Martin produced follow ups.

The original pressing apparently didn't feature the transatlantic hit "A Horse With No Name". ... Read More:

9.Homecoming by: America

Music : Homecoming
Accused of ripping off the various permutations of Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young, America deserve to be remembered instead for their consummate musicianship. 'Homecoming' is thirty-three minutes of mostly great music, and features succulent harmonies and deftly-crafted instrumentation, mostly based around the trio's acoustic guitars, occasionally piano and supported by a loose, but small pool of other musicians.

As with many albums, the strongest material tends to come first, though the last two tracks are just as good. 'Ventura Highway' is the best known track on show, but the swooning 'To Each His Own' and the country rock jaunt, 'Don't Cross The River' are at least its equal. 'Moon Song' is magnificent, if not as instant, featuring moments of transcendent ... Read More:

Music : The Presidents of the United States of America
This album was produced by one of the most unique bands out there, and it is a true masterpiece. The lyrics don't ever really mean anything, it's just a whole lot of fun listening to songs about peaches, kitties and an old man. The genius behind the band is Chris Ballew and even though he and his colleague have 5 strings between their 2 guitars (a bassguit and a guitbass, apparently) the sound is immense. And do not overlook the vocals either, Ballew has an incredible voice and his backup fits perfectly.

And to top it all off, the most rockin' song EVER is on this CD, "Kick out the Jams". If you are ever feeling a bit down, just put this on at full blast and you cannot help but feel a sense of total joy.
