On her debut album "Frank", Amy had already demonstrated her budding genius with tracks like "Stronger Than Me" and the stunning "Take The Box". On "Back To Black" she seizes her place among the immortals with a collection of songs that to my knowledge is unequalled in Pop history. The album is so chock-full of classics that it is hard to know where to start. This is authentic modern London jazzy soul that sounds as good as - if not better than - anything that has ever been produced by Motown or Philly - or anyone. What distinguishes it from all else in the current music scene is the sheer quality of the songwriting. You simply cannot produce a gem like this without coming from the wrong side of the tracks. Amy has put her heart and soul in to this, she has lived it for real. A priceless addition to any music collection. You only get the chance to find someone like Amy once in a lifetime if you're really lucky. We've hit the jackpot so lets all enjoy her while we can. BIG UP to Amy and the production team behind her music. A perfect TEN.

I've been a Amy fan since the start, so maybe i'm a bit biased when I say I prefer her debut album to her current one (which is still very good) but I always find myself listening to this album over her current one. I just think it's a bit more raw and authentic (and therefore maybe won't appeal to mainstream music fans as much?) and it really comes through on the album..defo a more jazzy vibe but I love it and it suits her vocals really well :) I did buy her new album which i also think it's brilliant but this is still my personal preference!

Plenty of others have written helpful summaries of the original album 'Frank', so my contribution is to provide a review of the new 'Super Deluxe Edition', packaged as a box set with a new 17-track bonus disc of 'previously unreleased radio sessions, rare demos and mixes'. This new edition is no doubt aimed mainly at dedicated fans, who will already own the album itself; the problem is that dedicated fans will also already own most of the 'rare' songs included here. Of the tracks featured on the bonus disc, only a handful are genuinely 'new', and all but one have been heard before in some form. Admittedly, that one unheard song - a cover of the Gershwin classic 'Someone to Watch Over Me' - is absolutely gorgeous, truly sounding like it could be a lost 1930s ... Read More:

The problems in her life are evident in this performance. Amy Winehouse is an outstanding talent as can be witnessed in the documentary segment on the DVD. In the main concert she is either high or pi$$ed or both and although musically it is fine, she is clearly struggling with her voice and relating to the audience. The quality of the songs really carry the performance. The person in the documentary is a different performer completely. That Any Winehouse is vibrant, energetic and in great voice. Sadly she appears to have since deteriorated more and unless she takes a different road is heading for tragedy.

Hearing this double act for the first time was commensurate to me with hearing I Get Around or I Feel Fine for the first time,swathes of vocal beauty matched with best Motown track that Carol Kaye et al never played on,everything on this disc reeks of Sixties RnB majesty,everything is perfectly arranged and executed,not a single note is wasted,within four bars Valerie becomes the song it was always meant to be,after hearing Ronson re invent Sail On Sailor on the Electric Proms,Ifound myself thinking to myself what I'd always felt was an impossibility,that being that anyone could produce a Wilson song better than the great man or his lil' brother,there seem to be no limitis to Ronsons talent,his rosta of artists on his cd harken back to Phillies greatest hours and in truth Ronson ... No second album syndrome for the glorious Amy Winehouse. On 'Back to Black' she has honed and developed her gorgeous jazz edged sound into something truly special! This album explores a range of styles: from 60's inspired motown, including the James-Bond-theme-tune sounding title track (on which she sounds not unlike Shirley Bassey!), through delicious hip-hop tinged jazz on 'You know I'm no good' to gorgeous ballads including the superb 'Love is a losing game'. Amy Winehouse's lyrics stand out on this album. She has a talent for writing about quite painful issues (loss of love, as on 'Tears dry on their own' or infidelity on 'You know I'm no good') with matter-of-fact honesty and incredible humour.
