This is a wonderfully varied, superbly sung, reasonably ordered 3 disc compilation of Webber's life's work. The versions are beautiful, there's the `classics' : Sarah Brightman, Jason Donovan etc. But this really does span all the avenues for his creations; Emmy Rossum's version of `Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again' is included from the film version of Phantom and Madonna's `You Must Love Me' from the Evita film. There are also some of the most recent stage versions; Lee Mead and Connie Fisher are both featured, from the popular Any Dream Will Do and How Do You Solve a Problem Like Maria? Although Connie sings `Make Up My Heart' from Starlight Express. I also very much enjoyed Elvis Presley being included and some other lesser known ones ... Read More:

I own the film soundtrack and this original cast recording version. I've seen the show 4 times now and this CD brings back the memories; the Overture does give you goose bumps and from this recording you get the flavour of the theatre experience. When sung well, as they are in this case, 'Music of the Night' and 'All I Ask of You' are very moving. Sarah Brightman is the star of the original show as her voice is truly moving. I've always been skeptical about Michael Crawford, although his signing is excellent, I don't think brings the true gravitas of the character of the Phantom all that well. The main reason for this recording to my mind was for the sensational performance from Steve Balsamo. Not really sure why they didn't record the complete revival cast as they sang better than most of the stunt casting here. David Burt (as in everything he has ever done) was brilliant on stage. Joanna Ampil looked good on stage but was too lightweight vocally for me. The stars were Varla and Balsamo and for them alone this is more than worth the purchase price. I doubt as complete performance Balsamo could be bettered!!

This cast recording has Jason Donovan as Joseph and is none the worse for it. Those familiar with Donovan's chart hits might be surprised with how good his performance is here. Linzi Hateley is superb as the narrator and the rest of the cast ably support her. This collection comes with a booklet with all the lyrics which is great if you're the sort who likes to sing along! So, if you enjoy musicals and particularly if you're watching the current search for a Joseph, this is the CD for you!

I have never been into classical music, however the TV programs Maestro and Last Choir standing (I know trash TV... sorry) made me realise I did like some classical music. So time to test that theory, and of course this CD fitted the bill perfectly, a bit of everything and 99% you will probably know. Good album, maybe I may have discovered culture :-)

Having seen the show live and falling instantly in love with it I could not wait to buy the Ultimate DVD. Although the DVD was different to the live show I had seen it is still great and gave me access to great stars such as Elaine Page, Sir John Mills and Jason Gardner to name a few. So it was with eager anticipation that I ordered the soundtrack for me and my daughters to listen to in the car. We expected the soundtracks to be the same as our much loved show and DVD - THIS IS NOT THE CASE. Some of the soundtracks are sung by other people and the standard is no where near the standard recieved on the DVD - the only exception being Memories by Elaine Page. I bought this a million years ago and it wears really well. Old Sir did himself proud with this jazz-rock come classical feast. What a band too! Don Airey and Rod Argent on keys, John Mole on bass, GARY MOORE on guitar, the wonderful Barbara Thompson on sax and woodwind and her powerhouse hubby - Jon Hiseman on drums - fantastic! Then of course we have Julian Lloyd-Webber on the cool cello. People remember the theme to South Bank Show but there is much more. Some cool laid back pieces mixed with some roaring, all out fusion sections. It's all instrumental and an absolute delight. Get it!!!

I bought this CD after seeing the show. The CD is fab with great performances all round. I gave this 4 stars instead of 5 as Jason Donovan's vocals as Joseph are often very soft and can't be heard clearly over the music, and the "s"'s seem a bit over done, a tad tad slurry. This may not be a reflection of his performance; it may be a production issue with the CD. Either way, it makes his performance seem a bit dumbed-down compared to the others. The variation in stlye between tracks, and the the fun element which oozes out of each lyric like drool from a laughing nutter help to make this a musical which can be enjoyed by people of all ages. My two year old daughter loves this on in the car, and I look forward to taking her to watch it when she's older. I won't go through ... Read More:
