It is astonishing how little material from the 1950s and 60s there is available from the fantastic Anne Shelton. My nephews and neices are discovering what a fantastic artist she was, and they are waring out my 78s, 45s and LPs! The most popular seem to be 'Rome (wasn't build in a day)', 'I Undertstand', 'My Continental Love' and 'Absent Friends'. Whoever has the rights to these recordings - and all the others between 1956-1965, please re-issue them - they'll be snapped up!

Music : Great British Song Stylist
This selection of Decca, HMV and Phillips recordings covers the period from around 1950 to 1956. The sound quality is good and these 20 songs represent some of the best recordings made by Anne hence its inclusion in the Great British Song Stylist series. It is good to hear Just Look Around and Crazy on which she is backed by Ronnie Price on piano and these are very much a cabaret style performance and quite different to many of the other songs on the CD. Her performance of I Talk to the Trees is likewise an interesting treatment of the showstopper from "Paint Your Wagon" With a running time of approx 55 minutes this is a Colin Brown compilation with notes by Bernie Tyrrell.
