Look folks I was going to buy this out of pure nostalgia anyway - but I have to tell you this is just about as good as it gets - definitely his best ever studio recording. The voice is as good as ever, and no one ever ever could get the same sounds out of a guitar as he gets out of "Lucille". Every track a winner and what a band - featuring the incomparable Dr John on piano. The production is faultless. If you have any affection for the blues you simply have to buy this. Without question a 5 star item.

This is the real thing. One of the great live recordings in any genre, it really is "live" with all the imperfections and crowd intrusions of the gig as it happened. BB King was always at the soul end of the blues styles, and this concert was recorded at the time that soul music was really taking off in BBs heartland. That fact is reflected in the performance - brash, noisy and above all entertaining.

These recordings for the BBC are well worth investing in.From three seperate gigs with the most recent being 1998,plus a couple of studio recordings done at Maida Vale for Andy Kershaw's radio programme. A selection of BB classics live and with BBC recording quality has got to be a must.If your a fan of the bluesmaster you will already have these songs but its still worth getting because in concert the band are just so good and really tight BB in top form throughout and obviously enjoying every second and his credits and comments all add to the experience. His live version of U2's When Love Comes To Town is a highlight as is one of my personal favourites of his When It All Comes Down.Every song is a blues classic and when you think he was already ... I really wanted to like this album. Two icons of R&B getting together again to cover some classic tracks. Unfortunately, this album is anaesthetic, tame and bland. Maybe 4 out of the 12 tracks are worth listening to. Clapton mumbles away in the background and spoils perfectly good music with muffled vocals and most of the track choice is at best uninspired.

Probably the notable exception is "Key to the Highway", which, along with "Riding with the King" is among the few highlights of this album. The musicianship is brilliant but it's so TAME!

What this pair need to to is get up on stage with George Thorogood and hammer it out instead of sitting in their rocking chairs telling everyone what fine guitarists they are while they ... Read More:

This arrived in the post today - loved it from the moment it started to spin.
The Man is and guest stars are in fine form although some are perhaps past the official sell-by dates they've developed character. Maturity suits the genre very well. A bit of croaking doesn't hurt it at all and some humour, mixes well. Mind you there is nothing too different about this album it treads a well worn B.B King path - and all the better for it in my opinion.

Sweet sweet music - enjoyable kick ass blues. Just buy it, and turn it up.

This looks to me like an absolute bargain for a cd that should be in all BB fans' collections.

Assuming that you're not tempted by that "Definitive Best of" collection, you need to have When Love Comes to Town and To Know You is to Love You somewhere and this seems as good a place as any. There are other classic tracks too (I'm especially keen on Ghetto Woman) but given how varied the collection is there are bound to be one or two tracks that don't tickle your fancy.

There's a certain feel to this album that's difficult to describe. The instantly recognisable sound of BB's guitar is such a perfect overlay on top of the rest of the music. It's a bit like being a Disney animator, where you have all the background on one sheet of paper ... Read More:

To call this cd "The Best Of B.B. King would be misleading. To call it "The VERY Best of B.B. King is a joke! There is just nothing to it, in fact it is quite cheesey! I strongly urge people not to buy this and instead pay the extra and purchase "His Difinitive Greatest Hits" which is brilliant. Fortunately I purchased that first and this was a sad let down to say the least. If I had purchased this first I would not have even contemplated buying "His Difinitive Greatest Hits." The difference between the two is immense!

Doesn't immediately appeal but theres some typical BB King stuff on here. It's worth buying but wouldn't necessarily top my list of must haves.
Production wise the sound suffers on some tracks from over use of Hammond organ and horns. Other-wise this is a laid back collection of enjoyable bluesy stuff. Not really too demanding for the artist, nothing new or challenging for the listener, Mr King doing his stuff, no fluff, just pounding blues.

I've been led to understand that this album was recorded as part of a plan to 'cash in' on the chart success if 'The Thrill is Gone', but it is one of those wonders of popular music that manages to transcend any genre or classification.
From the tongue in cheek introductiion to the hairs-on-back-of-neck-raising finale, the flawless production somehow allows the soul/jazz backing to showcase King's guitar playing better than any of the more traditional recordings. The guitar playng on 'King's Special' is, I would argue, some of the greatest 'feel' playing ever committed to record. If you like what Peter Green did in his Fleetwood Mac days, you will absolutely love this album.
There is also a faintly surreal quality to the album: You know it's B B king, ... Read More:
