I, too, was there on that very night - and feature in the programme - giving a standing ovation following Imogen Heap's contribution. - Wow!! Truly a night to remember and featuring his best work. A virtuoso performance by a musician who expresses his soul through the instrument and inspires others around him to do likewise. Breathtaking and memorable, my trip from Manchester was rewarded by front seats at the side, behind Jason Rebello. He, Tal Wilkenfeld and Vinnie Colaiuta clearly revelled in the fantastic atmosphere, all four musicians feeding off each other. It was sheer joy, exhilarating.. you get the drift, I enjoyed it.

Absolutely amazing album.

I originally bought it on download, but I've now bought the proper CD as compressed MP3 really doesn't do justice to all the layers and vibes going on.

Easily Beck's best album since the glorious Odelay. Definately his most accessible. Yes it is only half an hour long, but when you listen to it you don't feel short changed, it's half an hour beauty.

Innovative, wise and most of all you can dance to it.

Love it.

The woman in our local corner shop often has her Rod Stewart T-shirts on.
"Have you got the Jeff Beck albums yet?" I ask.
She smiles benignly as if to say; "Idiot! What would my Roddy be doing on a Jeff Beck album, I do wish he'd stop asking me that!"
Jeff Beck's first album after leaving The Yardbirds, and after enjoying (?) 2 or 3 chart singles on which HE took the lead vocals this album was an absolute blessing to hear; this was what we expected from a band fronted by him! And yes, regardless of my disbelieveing corner shop lady, her Roddy sings on all the original album tracks, and makes an especially fine job on every one of them, and would surprise quite a few of those disbeliever's in the process with 'Ol Man River' for starters. ... Forget heavy metal and led zepplin - Jeff has more balls in his little finger than all all the 'great' guitar players except than perhaps Jimi himself. Pure testosterone. The perfect driving music - no speed limit.

Jeff can change from thumping rock distortion to beautiful haunting bends and swoops - in pitch perfect highs and lows. Not to go through the tracks one by one - but this is Jeff hitting a high he has hinted at all his career. Never one to copy old riffs and cliches - he has been a unique talent ever since he picked up a 6 string. It's a change to see an artist not go down the commercial route just for the money.. No Frog Songs or Wonderful Tonights - just great guitar.

Just to say that I think the previous reviewer made a mistake when rating this album - 5 stars, surely! Talk about value for money! And most definitely worth the dosh. Three great albums, from the sublime Blow By Blow to Guitar Shop via Wired - storming! What I really like about Jeff Beck's playing is that, despite being flash as anything (which, incidentally he carries off superbly), he also can play a ballad, the mark of a great player. 'Cause We've Ended As Lovers is a case in point. There are those who criticise Mr Beck for being too brash but obviously they haven't listened to this, his playing is agonisingly sweet and restrained, as it is on Goodbye Pork Pie Hat. I particularly love the audible amp hum on the latter. If I had to choose, it would be Blow By ... Read More:

i used to think, "maybe it's me." why do i think this is genius, beck's masterpiece, a record that will make other artists weep at the gift that has touched this beautiful young man's life. i'm not sure beck was loving this much. there's a lot of pain. but then there's a lot of beauty. so maybe i am someone who bends toward the melancholic rather than the light. maybe that's why i think this record is untouchable. or maybe it is simply brilliant.

Why is it when you tell the common-or-garden Rod Stewart fan that their idol sings on two of Jeff Beck's finest albums, they look at you as if you're the village idiot?
Not that this album or 'Truth' need their sales to be increased by Rod's status in the band, but it's just that those people think you're having a laugh, when in fact you're trying to do them a favour.
But never mind, it's their loss, and whilst Rod might be billed as 'vocalist extraordinaire,' he isn't the only 'name' on here, there's Ronny Wood and Nicky Hopkins, too; and Tony Newman was quite a well-renowned and straight-ahead rock drummer, too.
If you're into rock music in general or British rock, then this will keep you more than happy.
The original 7 track LP we bought year's ago ... Read More:

It pains me to give a Beck album such a low rating, but for me this album is as featureless as the blank graph paper cover it comes in. Yes, as a previous reviewer said, the fact that you can design your own sleeve is the best feature. I designed mine before I'd listened to the album. If I'd listened first, I might not have put any stickers on it at all.

My cover depicts the little furry guy handing a guitar to Beck. I've broken the rules a little to add a speech bubble and a word in biro - the little guy imploring "Play?" of our hero. Beck looks non-plussed. In fact, on "The Information" he sounds non-plussed.

I wish I could say otherwise, but this album seems to be vapid and vacant. There's no emotion here. Beck seems to be sleep-talking through his ... Read More:
