In my humble opinion, easily the best soul/blues album you are likely to hear. Great songs, great voice, musicians are top notch.Bobby Bland at his best !!!!

Don't let the sleeve put you off this is a great album! I'd never heard of it until I read a magazine review a few years ago, but the reviewer was so adamant that it was a classic I thought I should take a punt. I'm very surprised this album is not more well known (or maybe I'm the only one who didn't know). Ain't Know Love In The Heart of The City is almost worth the purchase price on it's own but there are several others that are almost as good. Bland's voice mean they don't adhere to the archetypal smooth 70's soul man template, and therefore it stands on it's own merits next his classic 50's/60's recordings.

Bobby Blue Bland is rightly accalaimed as one of the greatest ever blues singers and this album clearly demonstrates why. If you are only going to purchase one album by Bobby Bland then I urge you to buy this one. All the songs are great with superb vocal range. My favourite is his version of "Stormy Monday Blues" which I put in the same category as the T Bone Walker version. Brilliant!

If you like music that falls in between soul and the blues this is for you. A voice with a tone between velvet and a rasp, Bobby Bland is one of those hidden treasures that you find occasionally via the most circuitous roots. Backed by one of the best sets of R&B musicians this stuff evokes early Stax and has some of the best grooves youare ever likely to hear. Its amazing that his stuff is not better known. I went straight back onto the site and ordered another one!

Not out and out blues, more like bluesy soul or somehwere in between. Wherever it is, it's excellent. "Shoes" is my all-time favourite Bobby Bland track. If I was gonnae be picky I would have added "Poverty" and "Getting Used to the Blues" to this compilation but then again my taste is more soulful than bluesy......If you like BB King (his old mate) then buy this too !

Bobby and BB are obviously huge stars in their own right. Incredibly, the sum here is greater than the parts. Whether they bring out the best in each other, or they are competing for attention or whatever - they both play out of their skins on this disc. BB finds his old Memphis passion again! In my opinion he can tend to the safe and the bland. But here he cooks. Its a sweaty soulful, bluesed up affair and a textbook example of club atmosphere crammed onto a recording.

Both the rating, and the title of this review only apply to Reflections In Blue. I LOVE this album - I first bought it on LP back in the 70's, and I still have it on my iPod today. It's classic soul-blues, or perhaps that should be Blues-Soul. The 'other' LP on this CD is awful, I listened to it once and hated it, and have never felt tempted to try it again. Basically it's country. Virtually all the tracks on RIB are very good/great, but special mention must be made of 'Soul Of A Man', and 'If I Weren't A Gambler'. The latter has an absolutely terrific bass line which locks in with the horns in amazing fashion. 10 out of 5 for that one, if it were possible! The playing an arrangements on this album are absolutely first class, with the sole exception ... Read More:
