`Question is does Bunny sound like Bob, or does Bob sound like Bunny!? No matter, the inspirational source is the same and the result is exultation, as the Blackheart man gives praise to the most high!

Purchased as an after thought while looking for some Burning Spear, this album has kept me so sweet since buying it over a week ago. Tracks 5 & 7 are the only weak points on this solid Roots- Rock- Steady offering. `The Oppressed Song' and `Bide Up' are like medicine for the soul. Buy this. I defy you to be disappointed!

2.Retrospective by: Bunny Wailer

Music : Retrospective
This compilation of the only surviving Wailer covers basically his late 1970s to early 1990s post Island output. It is remarkable how the most spiritual of the Wailers had such a creative outburst at the onset of the dancehall era and this compilation captures it neatly.
It gives us his best dancehall hits (tracks 1,2,3,7,8,9 and 13) and some of his best covers of Bob Marley songs (4,11 and 16) and Toots Hibbert (14)
It would have been the perfect compilation of Bunny Wailer but crucial tracks such as Jammins and Gambling are missing.

What a let down. After more than 20 years this great album arrives on CD in a horribly compromised manner.

Apart from the extra tracks that were not on the original record and are simply not in the same league, many of the original tracks are shorter versions than featured on the original vinyl.

If they wanted to put some extra tracks on how about the extended and dub mixes of the original recordings that appeared on the 12" releases of the time.

On this excellent release, Mr Bunnington Wailer revisits some of the early, upbeat "rocksteady" tracks he recorded with The Wailers back in the late 1960s before the band went rootsy and then "broke big" and Bob Marley became a crossover megastar. Using the wonderful, reliable rhythm section of Sly Dunbar and Robbie Shakespeare and joined by the guitar of Chinna Smith the songs are given an eighties makeover - some standout bass, horns and percussion and Wailer's vocals are right on the money. All the tracks are upbeat and catchy and have a laid back groove with a clear, fresh sound that vastly improves on the tinniness of the originals. Bass is to the fore as you would expect and the vocals soar above the solid backing. Check out the first two ... Read More:

All of the Wailers songs were bursting different kinds of energy and emotions.Since the tragic death of the legend Robert Nesta Marley on May 11th 1981 I believed the magic was never to be re-created,Bunny Wailer has truly captured that magic! Many artist's voices wither and seem to die as the years go by,Bunny's amazing voice still carries unusual strength,I beleive Bunny Wailer is the greatest artist reggae has to offer the world. Hall of fame proves this,BUY IT!!!

Bunny Wailer must surely be reggae musics most innovative, enigmatic and enduring artist...Since the early days when Bunny was the spiritual driving force behind the Wailers, straight into the 21st century,he has always shunned the fame and glamorous lifestyle a musical career as long his could offer. He is the true High Priest of reggae and devoted rastaman...This album contains seventeen tracks of a distinctly upbeat and positive vibe. I do think Bunny is trying to cover too many musical fields with this album though,.. everthing from classic roots style tracks. There's a couple of ska beat tracks. Bunny even tries to rap on two of the songs, which unfortunately sounds awkward and should have been ommitted from this otherwise exellent album. This ... Read More:

9.Blackheart Man by: Bunny Wailer

Music : Blackheart Man
Surely one of the most satisfying of all reggae albums, as Bunny is, by turn, militant and tender but always intelligent. "Knock and it shall be opened/Seek and Ye Shall Find/Wisdom is Found in the Simplest of Places in the Nick of Time." His voice is as expressive as ever - with the backing adding to the subtlety. Sounds as good, maybe better, now that when it came out over 20 years ago.
