on my cd player, the bass on this CD ( and I tried two CDs of this recording) emerge as big clouds of static which make listening very unpleasant. I tried Vinicius C's CDs Silva, and Horse and Fish, same thing. This is the first time I've encountered this problem with CDs and I own close to a thousand CDs. It must be some quirky thing with Vinicius' recordings.

Silva is actually a very deceptive album. On first listen it seems very easy-going and summery, but on closer listening you pick up on the more complex (but never convoluted) rhythms and the clever electronic touches that give the music an extra dimension. Some of the songs were written with Arto Lindsay, another great Brazilian heavily involved in the New York No Wave scene and these songs tend to be a bit more edgy. This is supremely subtle music that rewards many listens. I paid a pound for this CD, which must be the bargain of all time!
