If you are a fan of Bley's big bands, this CD sees her in excellent form. With the usual array of fine soloists including Soloff and Valente plus Andy Sheppard and Wolfgang Puschnig the band is similar to the one which "went to church" on her last album a couple of years ago. Here the centerpiece is the US national anthem - very post 9/11 - or perhaps not! Anyone who has her 1997 European tour album will recognise a few snippets from the anthems on that. This CD also includes a pleasant Mexican item and a typically quirky version of Old Macdonald had a farm. Unfortunately I'm not aware of any plans for this to tour in the UK but the CD is good compensation - All in all this is typical Bley, but on top form.
