2007's No Promises, made before Carla Bruni became Mrs Sarkozy, was a surprisingly good album considering it's concept. A French-Italian super model setting music to 11 classic poems, including works by the likes of WB Yeats, Emily Dickinson, WH Auden and Dorothy Parker...who wouldn't want to avoid that like the plague? But here we are, 12 months down the line and Bruni has done it again. Only the one song is in English this time, You Belong To Me, and this proves to be a wise move. The bubbly Je Suis Une Enfant is one highlight, the breathy and sophisticated sound of Le Temps Perdu is another. If your Hi-Fi is half decent then play 'Le Plus Beau de Quartier' on it and be just sensually knocked out. Don't get sidetracked by all the press criticism of Carla Bruni - this album is so enjoyable , for all the reasons already given , and of course for that favourite song of mine ...!

A hypnotic environment of word and sound which provides a delightful excuse to investigate the work of the poets included....but I needed the scripts the first time round although the French accent and mysterious dropping of plural's' was lispingly attractive.Well worth a listen and all that the poetry demands.

I ordered this having heard it over the Internet on the French radio station RFM and listened to clips at Amazon.fr It's one of those CDs that really grows on you especially if you play the accoustic guitar yourself - I've recently sent to Paris for the sheet music and now sing happily along with her (but her lyrics are difficult to translate!) She's got an 'earthy' voice, kind of mega laid back. If you like Maxime leForestier, you'll probably like this too.

I first got her french album to which that track was taken and while i couldn't understand a single word, the music was relaxing and found myself humming long to the majority of the tracks. I was excited to hear she released an english album, and this did not disappoint. A few stand out tracks, including the "If you come in Fall" will have you humming all day.
