When I heard Casting Crowns was releasing a Christmas CD, I couldn't wait. I love their music for taking the familiar and making me look at it in a fresh way. So when I got this CD I was a little disappointed with the play list. It is mostly familiar carols. But once I started listening to it, that feeling went away. Yes, the familiar carols are here and are plentiful. Yet they sound beautiful. There are gorgeous harmonies on "O Come All Ye Faithful." The guitar is fun on "Joy to the World." "Sweet Little Jesus Boy" gets a new melody. With a string background, it sounds like a lullaby. And the instrumental version of "O Come, O Come Emmanuel" is absolutely breathtaking. With amazing lyrics & wonderful bass lines this album had me hooked from the first track. The variety of styles makes sure you don't get bored and the content of the lyrics gives much food for thought. I'd not heard this band before but they're definitely now on my gift list!

Like other reviewers, the thing that strikes me most about this album is its honesty - it's not afraid to face some of the things that get glossed over by many Christian artists who seem to conform to the 'happy clappy' image rather than admitting that life as a Christian isn't perfect. The music itself is also very good and often very moving.

I BOUGHT THE ALBUM LIFESONG BY THE CASTING CROWNS AND IT IS AN ABSOLUTE STUNNER. THEY SOUND SO MUCH LIKE NICKLEBACK. THEY ARE THE CHRISTIAN NICKLEBACK. THE SONG "SET ME FREE" JUSTIFIES MY POINT. WITH AWESOME ROCK ANTHEMS AND AMAZING WORSHIP SONGS THE ALBUM LIFESONG IS DEFINATELY UP THERE WITH THE BEST. THIS ALBUM "CASTING CROWNS" IS ANOTHER STUNNER. THE FIRST 6 SONGS ARE AWESOME. THE LAST 4 LET THE ALBUM DOWN SLIGHTLY (BUT THAT IS BECAUSE THEY SET SUCH A HIGH STANDARD WITH THE FIRST 6 SONGS). I WOULD RECOMEND BOTH ALBUMS TO WHOEVER LOVES THEIR MUSIC. THESE ALBUMS WILL HAVE TO BE ON EVERY MUSIC FANS SHELF. IF YOU LOVE NICKLEBACK, THEN YOU WILL LOVE THIS ALBUM.
