I have loved her music since I saw her in 1980 supporting Jon Anderson This beautiful young lady came on stage with just an acoustic guitar and play for 30 minutes. She was awesome. Always remember the song "First Night n New York" Personal tracks are from touchpaper and voices records. If you like female singers with a deep sexy voice, try this cd it is a great insight into a singer with a very varied career. Her first album was released in 1971. The first album by singer / songwriter Claire Hamill. This was recorded and released originally in 1971 when Claire was just 17. Claire has an absolutely amazing vocal range, the songs are about her experiences of growing up and life in Northern gritty Middlesbrough. All the songs on the album are very good, and a funny one in "Alice in the streets of Darlington" Music should be fun as well as serious My favorites on the album are. Baseball Blues, a song about a boyfriend, who only wants some baseball boots. The man who cannot see tomorrows sunshine, about a man on unemployment benefit, how it makes you feel. The songs are beautifully sung, generally about love and romance. The song Peaceful is haunting with just her voice and a piano (listen for the truck) As is the song I don't get any older. Teen ingenue Hamill's folk 'n strings early recordings for Island moved on to work of increasingly jazzy and mid-Atlantic funk leanings, surmounting the rump of punk to relocate in the tinkle of `new age' by this 1983 release. There is no denying the quality of her song-writing: tracks such as The Moon Is A Powerful Lover (a credible stab at Sheena Easton `Bond' sound tracking), Denmark and First Night In New York rank amongst her finest work. But the tempting new technologies of the period have dated in a way that the warm organic `brown' of earlier acoustic has not. Where Claire once cooed for attention, she clamours now in a wash of synth plink that cools to sterilisation. The latest album from singer / songwriter Claire Hamill. Claire is my favorite singer, so no surprises that I have given this 5 stars. Claire could read out of the phone book and I would buy it! Claire has the most beautiful pure voice I have ever heard. Back to her best after her (very good) excursion into dance music with her last album Summer. However this is an absolutely gem of an album, the songs tell stories about being in love and losing lovers. "In the leaves in the park", a simple romantic song about falling in love and doing the same things as other lovers. Very romantic. Clair Hamill sounds as refershing as ever, but quite why this talent has not flourished is yet another musical mystery. For me the original desire to purchase this Album was the quirky "Geronimo's Cadillac" and yet after spending my hard earned money on the Vinyl version all those years ago, I was not disappointed and if you get the opportunity to hear this Album, I am sure you will not regret having flashed the cash and bought this CD. Clair Hamill has a supremely "clean" voice, hits the right notes and sings a variety of songs, those songs that will stick in your mind all day long. On a recent trip abroad, I was sitting in a Cafe and heard "Geronimo's Cadillac". A wonderful surprise and brightened more and already bright day.
