Clare Teal fans will probably pan me for this but having listened to most of her CDs and seen her live this really doesn't do it for me. She just changed record companies and it smacked of having to get something out quick. Sure there are some good tracks on here but the whole album doesn't fit together as well. Paridisi Carousel was a great album and this has good tracks like Get it on Sam and the cover of Moondance which stick in your mind but most of the rest didn't. Take your time Clare with the next one, put more of your own stuff in it and I am sure you will be back on form.

This is a wonderfully mellow album, so if you love jazz, then please give this a go - you won't be disappointed. There is a real mix of jazz numbers, all beautifully arranged. Clare Teal's vocals are wonderful as usual. I absolutely adore the arrangements for 'Paradisi Carousel', '(Reach Out) I'll be there' and 'Breakout', but all the selections are wonderful. Perfect music for a dinner party with a few friends and a few bottles of wine!

These are the words of one reviewer from across the pond - on the basis of the wonderful reviews that have been posted thus far, I recently added this superb album to my CD library...and with only one listen, I can see what people like Michael Parkinson were raving about. Please, DO NOT compare Clare Teal with other singers of her day (Jane Monheit, Diana Krall, Jamie Cullum, Norah Jones, Michael Buble, and so on) as she is in her own league. The entire album (from the Peggy Lee-ish "Messin' with Fire" to the bluesy "I Just Want to Make Love to You") is amazing - not a clunker in the bunch. Having read an article about Clare in Jazzwise Magazine. I decided to investigate further - I am so glad I did! I don't wish to pigeon hole Clare with other singers, but I am a very big fan of the dear departed Peggy Lee and I hear the same intimate quality in Miss Teal's voice mixed with a bit of Dinah Washington's growl and the ease of Anita O'Day or even Ella. I think it's wonderful that a young singer with such talent chooses to dedicate her gift to the worthy name of Jazz. Listen in particular to the delicate phrasing of Speak Low, and the raw emotion of 'You're My Thrill' and 'Ill Wind'. A great find for British, American even Martian Jazz lovers everywhere.

I bought this album after seeing Clare the first time she went on Parkinson (November 2003). Since then, I have seen her live twice (and will again soon), and bought all the other albums she has made. I can't think of a single problem with this album, hence the five stars. There is a variety of jazz styles on here, so it isn't like you get the same thing thrown at you constantly. Thoroughly recommend it!

I have seen Claire perform most of these tracks live and she is truely amazing! Her voice cuts through you so you will never forget the 'magic'.
