There isn't much more to say over and above what the previous reviewer said. This is a fabulous album and Benjamin Herman (who I had never heard of) is a great modern saxophone player. This was recorded live in the studio and there are no overdubs so everything you hear on this recording was done, if not the first take, certainly by the second or third.

The very catchy 'Psychoville' (written by Herman) gets the album off to a great start. A Monkish bopish piece. Herman takes the first shortish solo, but what a solo, using bent notes, distortions and doubletime sections I was immediately struck by the quality of the mans playing. My other favourite track is another Herman composition, the swinging 'Prozac' (interesting title!) where ... Read More:

A slight disappointment to me really given the talent concerned here.Full marks to Tracey for getting the brilliant Aussie tenorist Brandon Allen into the studio but doesn't really give him enought to do.It opens with great promise with the Bobby Wellins tune "C.U.C.B" where Allen takes his best solo of the session. With five of the tracks running at under five minutes there isn't really enough time to let these great musicians show what they can really do.Gareth Williams gets three trio tracks to show of his hard swinging piano style and with Tracey on drums and Arnie Somogyi on bass this really is a great quartet hence my slight disappointment at the end result with so much talent on display.
A good set of tunes nicely played by all but no ... Read More:

Music : Full Speed Sideways
The Clark Tracey claims outstanding British Jazz drummer Clark Tracey at the helm. The son of legendary pianist Stan Tracey, Clark began his professional career supporting a number of his father's groups in 1978, and has been a mainstay of the lively British scene since that time.

He has produced, and continues to produce albums that confirm his status as a drummer with supreme sensitivity and great inventiveness. He is a superb technician, and his complete mastery and control of the kit are obvious. Tracey's skill as a musician was evident from his very earliest recordings, but his prowess as a leader took a little longer to develop.

"Full Speed Sideways" was recorded in 1994, and is perhaps the first of his projects as leader ... Read More:
