The problem with the Shea Stadium gig was that they were supporting a stadium rock band (The Who) and, thus, concentrated on some of their more audience-friendly tracks. The best live Clash track I have ever heard is Complete Control. Other great lives songs include White Man In Hammersmith Palais, London's Burning and Capital Radio. None of which feature here. Although there are some great Clash songs on here, and some are better than on the second half of From Here To Eternity, this does not represent the best of the Clash live. To get a true picture of what the Clash were like live, you'd probably need the first half of From Here To Eternity, mixed with a random selection of tracks from this CD. Read More:

While I agree that there may be more comprehensive Clash sets available (my personal favourite being 'The Story Of The Clash Volume 1') this release does exactly what it says on the tin. All the singles, though not in chronological order - unlike the previous 1991 version, combined with far improved artwork. And it is this that sold me on this CD. The colourful booklet has been designed with care and features notes from the great and good on each track. Everybody from Pete Townsend to Danny Boyle and many inbetween, get to comment on their favourites and the impact these tracks had on them. Single sleeve artwork and illustrations adorn the liner notes together with some fine shots of the band. All in a slip-sleeved jewel case. And for once, no grammatical ... Read More:

NEWS FLASH....FROM THE CLASH.... I've already reviewed the US Version of this...but my UK version arrived today...so...Track Wise it's the same...The Clash: Live - Revolution Rock [2008] I still stand by review number one...I know some people think it's a bit of a rip off as most of the material has been available before..you do get some extras from US TV which unless you are a Clash Anorak like me ..you won't have seen before as they were only on "Unofficial" releases. I think it's a great release especially for people who never got to see the band live..you don't get the full impact...but you certainly get a good idea of how passionate they were about what they were doing. This is such an awesome collection! I have more or less every Clash album made, but this 2 disc CD is a great mix of some of their best work, and really represents why they are one of the greatest and most important bands ever formed. The first disc is my personal favourite - opening with the stomping 'White Riot', this CD shows their early work...tracks such as 'Complete Control' and 'London's Burning' have heavy political views, but performed in such a furious rage that demands your attention. This is the band in their youth years - all the tracks are pure punk anthems, which I love! Disc Two starts off with their best work - a mixture of genres such as reggae and rock are clearly heard in 'London Calling' and 'Rudy Can't Fail', but particularly in 'The Guns ... Read More:

When it was released, it was a must buy for all punks, as was the Sex Pistols. Oh how much better this has lasted than the Pistols. I prefer the original UK version, probably because it's so familiar. I bought all the singles so I got all the A and B sides of the early stuff anyway. I still play this album now, as with nearly all albums not all the tracks are 100% fantastic. Even so, the not so hot, don't last long (most of songs except Police and Thieves) don't go on. I never felt the need to get up and move the stylus on my record player and "skip" tracks. All in all, with hindsight this one of 1977s best albums, from a creative duo of Strummer and Jones who showed some classic writing skills. A milestone for rock music and well worth adding to your collection if you like that sound.

If you have a casual fondness for The Clash then maybe best not to bother with this. However, if like me you think The Clash are the greatest band of all time then you simply must own this - ignore the bad reviews you will see! Sure, there are a few songs on here that you will listen to once or twice and probably never again, but there is an albums worth of around 20 excellent songs on here that any serious Clash fan must own. If you are just getting into The Clash however, you would be better buying the debut album, give em enough rope and London Calling first - as this could scare you off!

what a masterpiece this song is and the clash were my favorite of the punk rock bands. i'm not a big punk rock kid, but the clash was my favorite. on this album it has the greatest punk song ever created in punk rock history should i stay or should i go and rock the casbah is a great tropical bar song.

This is something resembling what the Clash could do, when they were on blob. Steely power-pop, delivered at high velocity. Nothing outstandingly brilliant, (you need `Deny' or `Straight to Hell' for that) but not a duff track either. I moaned about lack of cohesion in my `London Calling' review, but this has got it by the bucket-load. In this instance, tensions in the studio were obviously channeled out positively into the songs, and they emerge 100% improved, spitting fire and defiance, refusing to lie down. This would be a 5 star album if the Classic-Clash triumverate of `White Man (in Hammersmith Palais)', `Complete Control' and `Clash City Rockers' had been originally included (some of the greatest music this country has ever produced!) but that's being greedy.
