I am 17 year old and i'm a massive fan of heavy metal, I love most types of music from Heavy Metal to Blues to abit of Indie to Instrumental rock and all types of rock from 60s 70s and 80s. 2 of my friends who have similar taste in music as me really like Eric Clapton so I checked his greatest hits and that was brilliant. Then I decided to start my Cream selection and bought this and i love it.

This awesome rock/blues album was made famous by the song Sunshine Of Your Love, which is a brilliant song but there is more to this album then that song. The best song for me here is World Of Pain it's amazing and the vocals on this album are brilliant. In conclusion, this album is brilliant and should any music lovers collection whatever ... 'Fresh Cream' was Cream's first release, recorded within a few months of them getting together. It was probably one of the first 'progressive blues' records and as such sounded different to anything else around in 1966, apart from perhaps Jimi Hendrix. Looking back now it seems to contain a slightly odd mix of melodic pop - "I Feel Free", "NSU" "Sweet Wine", updated country blues - "Four Until Late", "I'm So Glad" and harder-edged blues workouts - "Spoonful", "Cat's Squirrel" and "Rollin' And Tumblin'". As time went on it was these workouts that would come to dominate their set as extended jams but here they are relatively concise and in my opinion all the better for that.

Although Clapton's guitar is very much to the fore, the exceptional rhythm ... Read More:

If this really were the best of Cream it would consist almost entirely of live tracks whereas in fact there is only one included here, the celebrated 'Crossroads'. In any case 'Wrapping Paper' and 'Anyone For Tennis' obviously have no business being here as 'the best of' but are here simply because they happened to be released as singles, more because of Cream's management than Cream themselves. On the other hand of course this sort of compilation traditionally rounds up things that are not included on the main albums thus insuring sales to completists.
I really wish they had not chosen to take 'I'm So Glad' from 'Fresh Cream' as this does sound very artificial especially when compared with the amazing live version on 'Goodbye Cream'. There are other far more successful ... Read More:

This is a classic. It unfortunately doesn't quite reach the peaks that "Disraeli Gears" had the previous year, but gets very close.

It starts with a cracker; "White Room". This is one of rock's classic tracks which mingles Jack's weird and wonderful lyrics with Ginger's crashing drum beats, an opening that sounds like it's out of a spaghetti western and Eric's wah-wah laden solo that that comes from nowhere and eclipses most things done before or since. Things quieten down slightly with the old blues staple "Sitting On Top Of The World". "Passing The Time" is probably the albums weakest track, but has a nice hypnotic feel to it. "As You Said" is an weird track for Cream, cos it's acoustic. It's very creepy at points, but brillient - it's probably the first time someone thought ... Read More:

Simply one of the greatest rock albums ever released. Or, if you like, three of the greatest live tracks ever released with 3 studio tracks added on but not 'an album'. Who cares? The only thing wrong with it is that it doesn't contain a fourth live track instead of the three short studio tracks. Now with CD allowing much more space it is a disgrace that Polydor haven't rectified this. With one or even two extra live tracks it would have the makings of what discophiles like to think of as an 'album' and people compiling discographies might stop moaning about it being a(n)(arbitrary) hodge podge and completely forgetting to rate it primarily on the quality of the music rather than as some sort of meaningful, tidy or satisfying arrangement of tracks. This 'record' has been sadly undervalued ever since ... Read More:

Excellent album of Cream doing what they did. Powerhouse trio rock improvisation.

If you're thinking of buying 'Disraeli Gears' this is the one to get. Don't hesitate; the stereo mix on the first disc is far from satisfactory because of the way the drums are presented - much too isolated and too lightweight; it's only the mono version on the second disc that works for the 5 most important tracks on the album (Sunshine, Ulysses, We're Going Wrong, Outside Woman Blues and SWLABR) with the drums much heavier and better integrated into the texture, so it has to be this Deluxe Edition as this is the only way of getting the mono mix on CD. When I say it works I mean that it's exciting and will bring a smile to your face - the stereo version isn't and won't. I have explained this subject more fully in other related views.
Also on the mono disc you get the live BBC studio versions of all the ... Read More:

It's hard to know what to say about Cream that hasn't already been said a million times, folks. What this very good compilation does is to remind us just how varied they were in their approach, ability and style. Having just lived through the non-stop roaring of Fall Out Boy live (yes, folks, you cannot judge 'em if you don't listen to 'em), I was almost begging for something like Wrapping Paper by the end, so numb were my ears and every other part of my anatomy that hadn't been actually cauterised by the wall of noise. And Cream were not exactly shrinking violets live, either, with Marshall stacks about the size of a small semi in Ruislip and secret weapon Ginge in the background. What is missing nowadays is the light and shade, the variety, the colour, the little details that make music of any hue lasting and ... Read More:

This is worth the buy for Steppin Out alone. Fantastic playing by Bruce, Baker and especially Clapton, its just a shame their studio work didnt match the two live albums for passion and energy.

It all depends on the bass. Without it there's no tension and no gripping involvement. It's all too easy to miss a lot of what Bruce is doing in this particular concert if the hi-fi is not able to make the best of it. Other Cream live recordings are much less difficult to reproduce satisfactorily but all are sensitive to the equipment used because the bass balance is so crucial Cream's music.
I underestimated how good some of these tracks are because I did not get the optimum bass sound particularly with the DVD. This was the only version I had for a year or so and does not appear to be so good in respect of bass. The pictures are distracting anyway, so my advice is avoid the DVD.
It's really worth experimenting, at least with the CDs, so don't be easily satisfied.
One thing I wasn't wrong about though ... Read More:
