I listen to an expansive range of musical styles and ages, from "The Classics" right through to Metal. Now I'm not calling myself an expert in the field by any means, but you can usually get a gut feeling pretty quickly about the effort, imagination and skill put into any work - and this album, from the first listen - give you audio pleasure at every turn. It just oozes skillfull musicianship and beautifully crafted harmonies. The type of work that will always be considered a classic and will always be replayed by the listener over and over again. As for the opinions about Young's involvement etc - it really doesn't matter - CSN were already fantastic - adding in Y was simply a case of adding an extra ingredient of a similar style - and for ... This is a great album with moving protest songs.
See the film first to fully dig it.
CSNY are not observers of life, they've got balls.

The beginnings of CSN are the stuff of rock legend, meetings at Joni's (or was it Cass Elliott's)house, Nash's seminal high third harmony and then Woodstock. This first record is full of arguably, some of the best music these three would ever make. The melody, structure and sound were highly original. In a time when guitars were getting louder and harsher, the mostly acoustic sound was an intersting departure. The songwriting is excellent throughout and although of it's time in theme and outlook, the content feels very pertinent to today's cynical and jaded mainstream world view. Three such strong characters were always going to agitate and annoy each other. But on this record there was as yet no signs of the fragmentation and drug fueled paranoia ... Read More:

To put it more clearly, this CD shows all the limitations of a live album, as usual sound is poor, lot of talking, nevertheless it was my first CSN&Y record some years back and I fell in love with the band. You have to remember that this is about 35 yrs old, so of course people were quite different at the time, they believed (or were supposed to believe)in peace, love and so on...nevertheless the music is still great. The version of Southern man is so much better than the "After the goldrush" version, interesting also the acoustic version of cowgirl in the sand (you won't find it anywhere else, not even in Neil Young's bootlegs). A lot of other songs are great: Chicago, The lee Shore, Right between the eyes, all of them don't suffer much from the live version. I saw some bad ... Read More:

This is a strange compilation to be released in 2005 as it covers just four albums – Crosby Stills & Nash (1969), Déjà Vu (1970), CSN (1977) and Daylight Again (1982) – and none of the trio’s more recent work. Some might say that this is no bad thing when considering that this single disc includes no less than seven of the 10 songs from CSN’s classic, eponymous debut LP.

The one thing that everyone will say about Crosby Stills & Nash is how superb their harmonies are. Listening carefully to perfect examples such as Helplessly Hoping and Guinevere, it’s quite astounding to realise that the only musical backing to the choir of voices are one or two exquisite guitar parts.

Although CSN were one of the first supergroups, ... Read More:

I'm 23 and I love this CD. I think it's a great CD to chill out to, and I especially like the harmonies. For me, it'll sound even better in the summer with a beer or two. I'd recommend buying it.

A great live album from Crosby, Stills & Nash. If you like the DVD - Daylight Again, then you'll love this. If You hav'nt got the DVD, then what are you waiting for ?
For me there are a number of highlights on this album, but the top one has just got to be Wooden Ships, over 8 minutes long, simply brilliant and a total reworking of the original album version.

just read nicktu's review, spot on. CS&N have always had it all. If you are an aged rocker cum hippy who remembers Graham Nash in the 'Hollies'and then was amazed at what he produced afterwards with CSN & Y. Like me or you are new to this sound, (where have you been ?) sit back one late evening and listen to the lyrics and music this is the cream of my generation and it never ages. You will never be the same again. This is class well written produced and preformed. Buy this and enjoy.

Okay....okay, the sleeve is kinda cool. And this WAS a decent compilation at the time. But it seems unfair to say that this is better than "Déjà Vu", because IT'S A COMPILATION. Given that this was released in the mid-seventies, this product has been largely superceded by more recent collections. It's simply not good value-for-money, with its running time of only some forty minutes. Granted, they're mostly of a very good quality. (Although i've never been a big fan of the twee "Our House".)

Purchasers should probably turn their attentions to other compilations, which represent better value-for-money. If the more recent "CS&N Greatest Hits" suffers from replacing great tracks like "Déjà Vu", "Ohio", "Woodstock" and "Helpless" with inferior material, the same cannot be said of the "Carry ... 8 years had passed before Crosby, Stills & Nash reformed for the 'CSN' album of 1977. As an album, it lacks the earlier energy of their 1969 debut, and opts instead for a more relaxed feel. Stills returns to form with the acoustic gem 'See My Changes' and produces the latin-influenced 'Fair Game.' Meanwhile Crosby reveals himself to be the "most opinionated man" in 'Anything At All' - a soothing piece. The highlights of the album come from Nash - producing the anthemic mood piece 'Cathedral' and the simplistic brilliance of 'Carried Away.' This was certainly a worthy comeback from the trio, and deserves exploring further.
