Just a beautiful album, with the band sounding so relaxed and note perfect. I really do recommend this so much. And don't forget to pop the DVD into your PC for the extra mp3s: so far there's 'Wot's Uh...the Deal', Dominoes and a rather amazing Shine On You Crazy Diamond. A new track will be added every month until September 2009. How great a package is this! :-)

A sumptuous box 5 discs which covers pretty much the best of the 2006 tour and forming a pretty good tribute to the late Richard Wright. The main feature discs one and two are CDS of the Gdansk concert with the Baltic Philharmonic concert orchestra. Disc one made up mainly of the `On an island album`, disc two David Gilmours greatest hits with probably the definitive live version of Echo's the seminal Pink Floyd classic. Disc three is the fist of two DVD's this is highlights of the Gdansk concert and a rather good documentary the concert highlights stretch to 100 minutes or so. Nice music. I really should give it up though after having countless versions of most of this material but, the issue here is packaging. The imbeciles who designed this must either a) not own any CDs or b) couldn't give a monkey's over whether what CDs they do own are covered in finger marks or scratches. To get the Cds out you have to somehow prise open the sleevs and....ooops!...the sleeve splits. Pathetic. What's wrong with a regular jewel case?

Being a hard core Floyd fan for many years after hearing Meddle I've tried to buy everything that I can afford. I've watched three tracks from this package: High Hopes, Echoes and Comfortable Numb - three of my favourite tracks. High Hopes is incredible especially the last few acoustic minutes. I can't decide whether I prefer this version of Echoes or the version on "A Night to Remember" - I think the latter. Comfortably Numb is, as always, brilliant - although I would have liked an extended guitar solo. As I've yet to watch both DVDs and haven't even listened to the CDs I leave my review there. But something I mean to do in the near future is to watch the Live at Pompei Echoes and then the Night to Remember version. Question: Where's Nick Mason? Read More:

Considering,I hadnt indulged in listening or buying anything after the floyd depart or early David.I just fell in love with this album.I just had to have.Once you buy you'll never get sick of it.The songs are all so emotionally put together,simply gorgeous for me.

At the time of its release, David Gilmour's first solo album was quite low profile, sandwiched between the musical behemoths of Animals and The Wall. Even the cover art is unprepossessing, being an undynamic outdoor shot of a gloomy winters day with the band members louching at seeming random. This is a shame because this work is a real gem, showcasing the full range of Gilmours musical range from delicate acoustic work to full on metal solo's. 'Deafinitely' thunders along and used to be a favourite track for listening on 'cans' with its heavily flanged guitar which spirals up to infinity at the end. 'Mihalis' is a work of powerful simplicity with beautifully modulated playing throughout. For anyone who has come to Gilmour through his recent work, this is an essential addition ... Read More:

David Gilmour's second solo effort from 1984 see's him deliberately getting away from the distinctive, timeless sound of Pink Floyd. In doing so, About Face today sounds very much 'of its time' - drenched in mid-eighties synth, drums and an awful 'Phil Collins-esque' horn section. Thats not so say there aren't redeeming factors here. Gilmour's solo's - when allowed to break through the horrid 80's gloss - are great, and there are some decent songs (Murder, Out Of The Blue, Near The End) but there is a lot that is instantly forgettable. If you want Gilmour on top solo form get his 2006 'On An Island' album, or check out his amazing live DVD's.

this single is actually quite good. dispite the fact that its weird, Dave Gilmour doing some Syd Barrett songs, when Dave is the one that replaced him, practicly. you might think its strange but that fact that hes released it as a single shows what a tribute it is. hes done it to carry on Syd's memory. and seeing as Dave never sings "Arnold Layne" its Dave Bowie or Rick Wright, it just works. Dave only sings on Dark Globe, which after hearing it, i went out and bought Syds 2 solo albums, so if anything, this is a good idea, to carry on Syds impact. It Works! Get It!

Sorry to say I feel rather ripped off with this offering. On An Island CD, now with a red spine and a DVD as well. Great I thought, surely the On An Island CD will have something new to offer? Also it has Limited CD + DVD in silver letters stamped on it. So it can not just be directed at people who haven't been bothered to buy the original CD? Sadly it is, I hope Mr Gilmour was naive and didn't do this to rip off his fans who will buy his work no matter what. So Now I am the not so proud owner of 2 On An Island cds 1 dvd. If this was the plan, then I am hurt. I know that Mr Gilmour does a lot for charity, like giving away his London House. If he wanted money? I would donate.
