Def Leppard outsold many band of the 1980s, and this compliation of their best hits proves why. Hits from the early years of recording, like "Photograph" and "Rock of Ages" are within the compilation, and are complimented with the hits from their biggest selling album, "Hysteria", like "Animal", and "Rocket". Included also are some songs from their albums in the mid 1990s, like "When Love And Hate Collide", which scored highly in the UK charts. Of course, their biggest hit, "Pour Some Sugar on Me" is the first track, so that will definately get any listener going. The band itself produces absolutely brilliant music, and this album clarifies the imapct Def Leppard had on the music world. I would also call this a masterpiece.

It's not often that I buy a CD just because I'm going to a gig and want to know the words, but I did with this one...and I've listened to it so many times I know most of the words to the songs! In all honesty, this is one of the best albums I have ever listened to, never mind bought, and as such, I wholeheartedly recommend it to everyone who has even a passing interest in music.

There are a few albums that personify my youth and this is one of them. Pyromania is a classic album, ahead of its time and there isn't one duff track. Many believe that its successor, Hysteria, is superior, but although it is a fantastic album, I found it more quantity than quality. This album though just rocks, and it really did come to characterize the '80s. Released in 1983, it was a massive success in the USA, but, for some reason, UK audiences took time to catch on to its class. Only Michael Jackson's Thriller album sold more copies in the States. Not on this album. Def leppard's second album is a rock master class which they would sadly never repeat after following a far more poppy direction with following albums (however to be fair `Pyromania' and `Hysteria' are excellent albums in their own right). On this album Def Leppard wear their influences on their sleeves, one can hear shades of many classic 70's rock bands such as Thin Lizzy, UFO, Scorpions and of course AC/DC, who as other reviewers have pointed out are of particular influence to the early Leppard sound. Def Leppard have even stolen AC/DC's producer Mutt Lange for this album. However I would have to say this is not the `AC/DC tribute album' others have accused it of being as `High `N' Dry' is more polished sounding than any of AC/DC's ... Read More:

Vault (1995.) Def Leppard's first hits compilation. From their formation in the mid-late seventies to the modern day, Def Leppard has been one of the most consistent rock bands out there. From their days as part of the NWOBHM (New Wave Of British Heavy Metal) to their days as a classic hard rock band in the eighties to their modern days as a pop-rock band, they rarely fail to please. Let's be honest...this is never a "great" album. It's ok, and there is no shortage of hooks, but the lyrics are so bad they really put you off. Come on - "She's personal property", "make love like a man, i'm a man" - for christ's sake. At least AC/DC can do misogny/lewdness with humour or tongue in cheek as well as better tunes. That said there are a couple of good tracks on here - White Lighting, Tonight, Tear it Down. Worth a listen but please, it's not a great album.

It's hard to describe why this is not great, but i am going to try as it seems to be a rule on Amazon to only review items you like. I have a copy of Slang, which I like, and i thought i would go back to the beginning and work through the albums in chronological order (which works for me normally) but after this, i won't be bothering with the rest. It's just not very good.

Def Leppard doing covers??? whatever next is this the swan song era now? No, definetley not! These covers aren't covers, they are recreations. In fact quite a few are better than the original - which is some compliment. Well done guys on pulling this off, as it could have been a complete disaster!

This is by far the best album Def Leppard have released - only it isn't an album; it's a collection of B sides and nearlys. Some great non-traditional Def Leppard tracks like Desert Song and Fractured Love as well as some good old rock tracks like Ride into the Sun and Ring of Fire. There's also a storming cover of an old sweet song - Action - and was released as a single. Ballads are not missing, buut don't be surprised to hear Miss You in a Heartbeat no less than three times on the album! I can't wait till the next B-side collection!
