This album is amazing! Fantastic song writing. The first 3 tracks especially are brilliant and amazingly well written songs. I love it!

I have practically no interest in Country music with the notable exception of Neil Young's Harvest Moon (which I also consider a masterpiece.) But this magificent effort from the Chicks is one of those albums that totally transcends genres. I consider it the equal of such classics as Metallica's "...And Justice For All", The Mediaeval Baebes' "The Rose", Tori Amos' "Little Earthquakes", A-ha's "Hunting High and Low", Bon Jovi's "7800oF", Dire Straits' "Alchemy Live", Within Temptation's "Mother Earth", The Divine Madness' "Secrets", Def Leppard's "Pyromania", Whitesnake's "1987", Portishead's "Portishead", David Krakauer's "Bubbemeises: Lies my gramma told me", Sabbat's "Dreamweaver" etc etc etc. I could go on.
The point is, "Home" touches ... Read More:

Introducing us to their rhythmic and melodious country/rock style, and their infectiously candid and assertive manner that would later get them rather unfairly into political hot water, the feisty Dallas trio's first mainstream album is a fantastic example of country music that has been made accessible to a wider audience.

The Chicks are entertaining, they sound as if they really had a lot of fun making this album, and their performances are full of spirit and energy - they're a joy to listen to. The album also has heart and soul, there's a lot of humanity in the lyrics which might not be immediately obvious to the casual listener.

However, I did feel that they were holding something back on these recordings, there was even more ... Read More:

I came to this album late, it having been released in 1999. But, as they say, 'better late than never'.
The mix of country music on this is truly eclectic. From modern contempory through to the very traditional. All have been given, and benefited from the 'Chicks' treatment. The characteristic lead vocal and tight harmonies are brilliant.
If you haven't added this to your collection yet, it comes highly recommended. The current price on Amazon is a bargain.

Really, I don't want to use many words here since this review was only triggered by a previous one downgrading the record to 3 stars despite saying "a fun listen and much better recorded than most [live recordings]". This implies that the Dixie Chicks Top of the World Tour would be just mediocre (that's what the middle of 5 stars means) while it is so much better. Said review goes on "The impact of their songs is based on a very emotive vocal style [...] beautifully underpinned by a high level of indiviual playing [...]. That is lost to a great extent" - that's just a lot of tosh. Musicianship and vocals are all there. If you want intimacy then listen to the studio recordings - after all, most of the songs are out there as studio versions, except Mississippi (in an interpretation ... Read More:

8.Divas Las Vegas 2002 by: Celine Dion, Shakira, Dixie Chicks, Cher

Music : Divas Las Vegas 2002
I bought this album after having seen a clip of the actual show on VH1. I am a die hard Celine Dion fan and frankly I would've spent double what I did just to have her version of "I can't help falling in love with you." Luckily for me though the rest of the CD is great too. Anastacia really does her voice justice and The Dixie Chicks are wonderful as ever. Every song on the album is fantastic. As someone who spends far too much time listening to music I can assure you that this album is definately worth buying. Whenever I'm sad I'll listen to a jazzy number from the album and dance my cares away. Even if you're not a particular fan of any of these women as long as you enjoy listening to great voices then you'll enjoy this CD.

Do not buy this item. I was expecting a music CD with songs, not speaking parts with a couple of bits of music thrown in. I'm a big fan of the Dixie Chicks, but this is probably the worst CD I have ever been tricked in to buying. I didn't know when I was buying it that there was minimal music; you are cunningly not informed of that. Keep away from it.
