I live in Australia, and have just found through browsing websites the Doris Day christmas album on cd, and am so overcome with emotion as I feel I have just found the most amazing treasure. I have the original recorded album, which was handed down to me from my Father, I am 43 years old and the album is still in perfect condition, even though it is lovingly pulled out every christmas and played non stop while I do my christmas cooking....I place this album at the top of the list of must have christmas music to own....Doris Day has the most smoothest voices and there has never been another singer who can match her voice or make a song feel so real it brings you out in goosebumps....

If you want a Doris Day hits album this has all the important tracks you will need. It also has a few good tracks seldom on other compilations..."Fly me to the moon"...."Close your eyes"...."Dream a little dream of me".All gorgeous. However if,like me, you are an ardent fan you will notice there are two previously unreleased tracks( from TV specials sources)which you MUST have. They aren't wonderful but they're not at all bad. To hear Doris singing "Feelin groovy" is interesting.As for "The way we were".....you've got to own it. They are very clever at this repackaging job. Genuine Doris fans will buy it for those two tracks and I have to admit other fans who just want the hits,well, you can't go wrong.

In Europe, music can be released by virually anyone after 50 years have passed from the original copyright date. Lots of Doris's music therefore now falls into these realms and as consequence is being release by every Tom, Dick and Harry by just about any opportunist who wants to make a fast buck! My advice is IF the Doris Day CD you are buying is not released by her official record label i.e. Columbia Records (subsidiary of Sony BMG) then don't buy it!! Why? Well for one you never know what sources will be used for the production of the CD. Some labels have been known to simply take the song from vinyl as they won't have access to the Sony BMG archives. Also the media is awash with stories about artists being cheated out of their royalities ... Read More:

Of all the many Doris Day comps this is the only one that gives the essential hits and plenty of rareities.I read somewhere that Doris cut a version of Pat Boone's Two hearts but it seems its not here-maybe there's still a lotta stuff to find yet for CD as she made a slew of singles in the 50s. Great to have the original version of Sugarbush-Eve Boswell was known here for that. A little known fact about Doris Day is that she's the only artist to have her name dropped into 3 Beatles/ex Beatles songs. Move over darling was the record which landed Doris Day into some sort of "credibility" with rock critics.
