What an album. For something released in 1996 this sounds miles ahead of its time, and still does. Kool Keith raps as his Dr.Octagon persona, adding a medical twist to his usual diet of porn and insanity lyrics. Acclaimed as his best album, his seemingly nonsensical battle rapping is as great and original as ever, with his speedy but watertight flow and sick, cryptic, twisted rhymes ranging from pop culture references, dark and nasty porn/horror imagery and out-and-out weirdness. What really shines on this album is the production however. Automator's trademark futuristic sci-fi style is here, plus the kind of dark, menacing horror samples kinda like KK's other long time beatmaker Kutmasta Kurt. As with most Automator stuff there's nothing repetetive ... Read More:

I must say that Dr. Octagon is the Mix Master that time forgot. This guy should get big ups for all of music which has an awesome and original sound to it. The best song is definitely Blue Flowers. The good Doctor also scratches up a storm, and personally, makes me wanna go and buy turn tables whenever i hear the cd. You must buy this CD. I wanna give props to Jackson for introducin me to the Doctor. Talkin ghetto style is just one of the fun things about life. Shout out to James, Super, Chuck, Dan, Eric, Jackson and all my other G's. But most of all, buy this CD!!!!!!!! (ALBIE)

I say dirty, but i mean dirty in a clean clinical sort of way, the beats are dirty the rhyming is slighly pervy at times, but is as clean as freshly bleached operating table and i like it. In terms of its musical content and artistic aplumb I find this album remaniscent of the early work of brazilain bongo player and nose flutist Marichio Buhumba. It has the same raw edge as can be heard in much of the great mans music, and it's a very thin edge one step either way and one would topple into the flaming pit of breakbeat on eitherside.

Some marvelous and varied vocalists can be found throughout this album, all under the watchful and ever open third eye of main men Kool Keith and the Automator, who's beats can be as calming as a babies ... Read More:

The front end of this record sets it up as THE alt-hiphop-dance-crossover masterpeice. The second half has it's strong points, but lets the whole picture down slightly. On balance it comes across as a truly inspired strike for the heights of creativity that deserves repeated listenings, even if you do skip a track or two.
Check out the clip for 'Aliens' (It's up on youtube). Hilarious gonzo film-making.

I loved, and I mean LOVED the original Octagynacologist beyond reasonable bounds. I played it so much that I wore it out. That was the original, in the the clear case with the green cardboard sleeve (mid 90's)

Now then the new release, with the skeleton on the front, to my ears is chronic (not the Dr. Dre sort either!), it has no flow, no charisma, no life. It's basically ruined the whole concept of the album. It's almost as bad as messing with the running order of Deltron 3030, or even worse, the Dark Side of The Moon, or Orbital's Brown Album. I'm gutted that it was done, even though many of the titles remain the same.

Even utterly spoilt, the album still gets five out of five, due to the fact that the original album easily merited ... Read More:
