This album is nothing like 'My Life in a Bush of Ghosts', which was all samples and weird beats. Instead it's very poppy upbeat melodies, and generally very lovely. Up there with David Byrne's best.

Brian Ferry as a singer songwriter I can take or leave.Roxy Music in small doses.Ferry as an artist who does stacks of cover versions? Yes definitely.
The Dylan collection is not the first time he dabbled in Dylan as A hard rain's gonna fall was made in 1974 in a radical makeover which was more Barry McGuire than Bob Dylan-whose original had been acoustic.
Purists may object but then they aren't the ones who'd have the imagination Ferry has.
For a start this is more a label of love. Its never going to be any sort of chart record unless public taste moves back to where it was before the 80s.
I now look forward to Ferry doing a Beatles covers album

This is a great album and probably my favorite from Brian Eno. It has that dreamy music that is from out of this world. Good for use in trance work and healing sessions in general, as relaxes client and therapist alike. As with much New Age music, this one in particular is timeless.

The atmospheres, textures, spaces, and other worldly sounds of this album are staggering. All other attempts at a "World" music seem to me slight by comparison.
There is deep unease in this album; like another reviewer in these pages, I cannot help but be struck by the prescience of the piece, capturing an African/Arabian world ill at-ease under the yoke of what were then growing global American and other western interests.
The narratives of Byrne's "Remain in Light" have now been jettisoned in favour of sonic landscapes which perfectly evoke another world, real or imagined, far more vividly even than the brilliant "Listening Wind" from the Talking Heads disc.
Eno showed too how he could move from the cold, stark world of eastern Europe in ... Read More:

Sometime in the mid 1970,s Brian Eno was stuck at Cologne,s Bonn Airport for several hours. Was it the interminable frustration and ennui of hanging around the place that riled him ?....no it was the insipid sound system used in the terminal . Using this as a source of inspiration Eno designed music with the specific intent to defuse the anxious fraught atmosphere within an airport terminal .
Released in 1978 Music For Airports was the first album on Eno,s new label EG, created especially for the form of music he dubbed "ambient"-a term he used to identify his minimalist approach to the music. The music was looped with tapes of different lengths and other instruments phased in and out of the mix in a complex constantly evolving pattern of music. Two tracks ... Read More:

This is the greatest album of the 1970's, the album that introduced ambient music to the world, confirmed Eno's genius, and inspired Bowie to make his 'Berlin' albums.Only five of the songs contain vocals. The opening song is an avant garde cracker that pulls us dramatically into Eno's pioneering sonic landscape. AGW'S mood is by turns reflective (St Elmo's Fire),elegiac (Golden hours), serene (the title song,The Big Ship, Becalmed, Zawinul/Lava), sombre (In Dark Trees,Spirits drifting) romantic,(I'll come running, Everything merges with the night) and adventurous (Sky saw,Over fire island) And Little Fishes is sublimely odd. But the album's never anything less than original, and enthralling.
If I had to pick any standout tracks, the title track is the most accessible ... Read More:

This CD is an excellent representation of the marvellous musical soundtrack to the Michael Mann film 'Heat'.

It contains (chronologically amazingly !) all the sections and pieces which any fan of the film will be familiar with, but it stands as a good musical compilation in itself.

Contributions from Moby and Lisa Gerrard are notable, but every track exhibits musical quality to support the action and emotional themes of the film.

The sound quality is excellent and the running time is over an hour (soundtrack CDs can sometimes be quite short !).

I first bought this vinyl lp as it was released way back when and was, at the time, blown away with it. It is probably the ultimate glamrock record in a most understated way. It could even be one of those best ever recordings that we hear about every now and then but with which we rarely agree. This is a true statement of art.

For those who disagree, take a listen to Baby's On Fire and then watch the film Velvet Goldmine. Take a listen to Blank Frank on a powerful Hi-Fi with the volume cranked right up. I dare you to relive the lipstick and fur.

While 2004's The Equatorial Stars, by the most cerebral duo in rock was a long-awaited epistle after a lengthy hiatus for most fans, few of us knew that Fripp and Eno had been working on and off for more than a decade beforehand. Thus Beyond Even ( Cheekily sub-titled Works Of Startling Genius and available as a double CD with a mix side and errr a normal side ) comes as a very welcome surprise.
Stylistically Beyond Even is difficult to classify. There are the to be expected ambient pieces - probably those that came from the same sessions as the Equatorial Stars material . But there are also startling sonic interludes , moments of queasy dissonance and totally unexpected traipses into new areas. It's especially unsettling on the mix CD, where the music tones often sound at odds with each ... Read More:
