`Love, War and the Ghost of Whitey Ford' is the long-awaited new album from ex-House of Pain front man Everlast. The first song that I heard from this album was the cover of Johnny Cash's "Folsom Prison Blues". At first I wasn't too keen on it to be honest, mixing the old country/rock classic with Cypress Hill's "Insane in the Brain" beats, but it is definitely a grower as now I love it. The other single, "Letters Home from a Stone Garden" describes what it's like to be a US soldier in the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq and writing home to their loved ones. This is easily the most standout track of the whole album and is criminally unheard of as it is excellent.

The album is mainly quite mellow with big beats and Whitey's distinctive ... Read More:

I have absolutely loved Everlast right from the beginning so maybe I'm biased towards the older albums like "whitey ford sings the blues" which could be why I only gave it 4 *s ...WHO CARES?...
I'm listening to this album right now and I wouldn't change it if my house was burning down around my ears. I would definately recommend this to all lyric lovers.

P.s. got a sub in your car boot? then turn up track 4- Sleeping alone...

I would discribe this album as a 4am chill out album (and one of few in this catagory) It has great acoustic ballads and in the to songs with Carlos Santana great guitar solos. This album is great value for money and willl definatly be an album i could listen to over and over again as it is one of the best that i have heard in a very long time.

This is one of my favourite albums. Its one of the few examples I've ever heard of a rapper actually showing some musical talent outside a mixing desk.

Everlast hasn't really topped this one. Subsequent albums have, to me, sounded like weak imitations of this classic.

Alongside some adequate hip-hop (which I can take or leave to be honest) and the mandatory 'shout outs' from his celeb mates, there are some really cracking guitar led tracks showing some real blues feeling and talent. A pity there aren't more tracks as good as 'Ends' and 'What Its Like', There are a couple of more thoughtful hip-hop tracks as well - one deals with a mouthy rapper getting humbled out by an act of God (basically semi-autobiographical), the other ... I have been moved to write my first review by the fact that there are only 2 reviews for this album. I'm not a fan of rap but I am a fan of good music and this definitely is good music - I'm not really sure how it should be categorised as it covers quite a few genres. I like Rock, Folk, Metal, Blues - I guess this album must have some of all of these for me to like it so much - well maybe not the Metal! It's got a fantasic momentum, cruising along at walking pace, mostly what I'd call songs with tunes(!), with the occasional rap-type thing in between. I've got a lot of CDs and I can't think of any of them to compare this to, you know; buy it if you like .... All I can say is that this is one I'll always come back to - it would definitely be one ... Read More:

Granted i first heard about everlast by listening to house of pain in the early 90's and was suprised that he had done a solo album. Needless to say it took me ages and ages to get a copy of this album and i was sure there had been a mistake when i saw the Nick Cotton look-a-like on the front cover!! However this album still drops bombs, i get the impression that it was largely slept on in its hey day and it's only been the sucess of whitey ford that has brought it to the lime light. Good tracks on this album are "I got the Knack", "The Rhythm" and "Syndicate soldier". This album is deffo better than Vanilla but at the time not as hard as 3rd Bass....either way everlast get thee back to the house of pain!!

Cranking the session into E-F-X. Here we have Whitey's ep mixing straight off the back of "sing the blues" ands what a good ep it is too. My fave track is "Only love can break your heart". Previously this song was covered by UK indie group St Etienne and Ev has used his trade mark "Hick hop" style throughout the song. The live version of 'Jump around' is pretty bizarre without the rest of the old school crew, but is worth ev's comment alone at the end of the song stating "I was only wanted to get u started with that new york ish, u know what time it is.." or words to that effect, Cold Bus' IT !!

This song is completely unique and so is the album (Eat at Whitey's). Both are tremendous. This CD also comes with 'Grves to Dig' which is a very meaingful and emotional song. I recommend this CD to anyone with any taste in music. Everlast is an extremely underated artist. The album is an eclectic mix of rock, hip hop and r&b. This CD is too good to be overlooked. Buy it as soon as you can.
