About a month ago I stumbled across "Extreme" after watching a Youtube video featuring "Lil Jack Horny" as background music. After that, I done some more digging & bought their entire collection of CDs...

These guys are just awesome and I really wish I'd heard their music sooner.

"Saudades De Rock" is a terrific album and is even better when the volume is cranked up real loud. It has echos of "Pornograffiti" in some songs but, it's got a sound all of it's own when you listen more closely. To be completely honest here...it did take me a few listening sessions to really get into it but once I did...I was blown away by the opener "Star"!

This album has a wonderful mix of head-banging metal riffs, funk ... Read More:

Okay, I only discovered this album 2 days ago but I'm completely obsessed with it already. I can't understand how I could not have heard of this powerful metal-funk album before...

It particular, I love "Lil Jack Horny" which is one of the best tracks on the whole album alongside the title track "Pornograffiti."

This album is a weird and surreal mix of metal, rock, dance, glam-rock and funk all rolled into one. I quite honestly believe this album is beyond it's time. Truely it is a mad mix of musical styles but it sure as hell works! Love it!

It's not for everyone's taste but repeated listening will most certainly change your mind if you're unsure at first hearing.

Highly recommended for anyone who ... Read More:

I can't remember how many times I've listened to this album. Possibly a million. And no album since 92 has ever had an greater impact on me than this one. This one not only got me into "real good music", but it made me think about a lot of things in my life. It literally covers everything, love, politics, life, and in most cases war and peace. No other group out there could've wrote songs about those things better. If you havn't heard this album yet, you should. It may sound a bit dated, as in early 90's material, but it's still simply brilliant. The whole album tells a story. It starts off as seemingly in-your-face with a lot of sarcasm and hypocrisy.. then gradually gets more and more serious, with an unbelievable climax of three songs which delve quite ... Read More:

I think Pornograffitti is Extreme's best album but their first album shows the potential. Nuno Bettencourt's playing is amazing in places. Just like to mention that the guy who wrote a review calling this band soft rock clearly doesn't know what he is talking about. Soft rock is the kind of stuff you put on as background music at a family gathering because it won't upset anyone. Extreme play metal, especially on their first 2 albums. You don't get shredding in soft rock! Yet another example of people trying to re-write the definition of the genre just because the sound isn't as heavy as the metal bands of today.

The songs aren't too bad, in fact a couple of them are excellent (Stop The World & Decadence Dance) but the problems are thus: the band just don't sound like they mean it, there is no conviction in their vocals or harmonies. They're brilliant musicians but lacking in that X Factor. Secondly, the production is TERRIBLE. It's a horribly bright album with piercing treble which is really fatiguing to listen to, even at low volume. There you have it. A fine set of musicians, the odd good song, a talented guitarist but a hollow end product. Oh, that's if you can bear to listen to it!

Don't get me wrong, I LOVE Extreme. Their first album, their second album, their 3rd album...all along you can see the progress of the band as they mature and get better and better. But then came Waiting For the Punchline which to me is just...terrible. It's droney, depressing, boring...nothing like their first three albums. I bought it when it first came out, I think played it about twice and then have never played it since...until I have just re-bought all their albums on CD (yes it was that long ago I bought it on tape...) I thought maybe I'd have changed my mind in the 13 years since I first heard it...I haven't. It's just poop. Still it seems that most people DO like it, so I'm happy for Extreme that mine is not the popular opinion. I'm so glad they're back together ... Read More:

For the Extreme fan, this really is a complete collection. All the videos, including the hard to find "Song For Love" video, and both versions of "Stop The World" and "Rest In Peace", plus 5 live tracks are here for your enjoyment, all in 2.0 stereo or 5.1 surround. Some of the older videos are obviously a little cheesy now, but the live footage shows off what a great band they were, and will be again in 2008. Fantastic stuff! Let's hope for a full on live dvd soon.

I bet your wondering after reading my one-line summary why I gave this CD 5 stars. Quite simply because Extreme's songs are well worth a five star rating any day of the week. Sadly however this production get's a one star rating. The design on the front & back notes looks like something somebody made at home while taking a dump. It's ugly. Even worse, on the tracks, "More Than Words" & "When I'm President", there are glimpses of tracks off of Extreme's brilliant conceptual masterpiece "Pornograffitti". During the end of "More Than Words" part of "Money(in god we trust)" comes on, and the song stops. At the start of "When I'm President", the end of the song "Lil Jack Horny" from "Pornograffitti" is playing before "When I'm President". Also where is some of Extreme's better tracks, like, ... Music : More Than Words
Once In a while a song comes along that makes you think, that is a classic, that will always be remembered.

This is one of those songs, a classic in every way, superb lyrics, outstanding singing and probably most of all, one of the most stigmatic riffs on a guitar of the early 1990's.

Buy it and remember it for ever!
