Initially, I found this album to be disappointingly bland. Each song seemed to sound alike, with no stand-out tracks. This turned out to be a good omen; all my favourite albums are not immediately likeable. I could really appreciate the quality of 'Silent Cry' after four listens. It is quite an epic sound, with universal lyrics. 'Sonorous' gives a nod to the old grunge days; 'Into The Blue' has an indie disco influence; 'Tracing Lines' is upbeat pop. The guitars and rhythms are heavy, which signals a new burst of confidence, if not a return to the pre-CIS sound. However, a bit of piano or keyboard would have been welcome at points! The two extra tracks on the deluxe edition are probably not worth it, though, unless you are a completist.

If you like Feeder, but don't want to buy all their albums, then this is probably the best place to start. You get a great selection of their tracks from all their albums, plus the addictive 'Just a Day' which was pretty hard to track down until their B-sides album came out. You get all the best tracks from 'Comfort in Sound' and 'Pushing the Senses', both top albums, as well as the more well known singles from their early albums. There isn't anything new here if you've got all of their stuff, but it is a good compilation for die hard fans who want a bit of everything in one place. Feeder are a great British rock band with some great rock tunes, perfect for summers afternoons or whenever you need a pick-me-up. Worth a try.

Feeder have consistently produced some excellent albums over the years, though their last effort "Pushing the Senses" was routine. Here we have some considerably beefed-up and less washy songs from the band, all of a very good standard, but unfortunately their efforts have been spoiled by bad engineering and mastering.
This seems all too common these days, are studio engineers suffering from bad hearing, do they hear things differently to us? Many parts of this album sounds so compressed and over-eq'd it is hard work to listen to, it hurts, the main parts of the music just sound so mushed up. There is some relief in the quiet passages which seem just right, overall this is slightly less of a problem on the better quality vinyl version of this ... Read More:

Bah, Feeder are an underrated band. Sure theres more creative forces out there but how many bands hit the killer anthem element of their music more often than Feeder?

And this ones their golden album, the one that gets shouted out the most, the moment they shot into the spot light but then didn't really get as big as they hoped too.

At this point in their career 2 albums in the record label were ready to give up on Feeder. The result, an album of hope and dreaming of distant stardom, on top of a reality check and thankfully a lust for life.

Regardless Buck Rodgers is a huge career defining single for Feeder, so famous and popular the band have gone on record to hate it. Just like Oasis and Wonderwall, Radiohead and Creep ... Read More:

So it's taken me a while to get round to finally buying this album, mainly due to my general oppinion on B-Side sellection CD's - and the, as I thought, "inevetable" fact that the songs are B-Sides for a reason; that reason being that they're simply not as good as the A-Sides. Feeder's 'Picture of Perfect Youth' is quite an exception if you, like me, find most B-Side sellections lacking any depth.

Feeder's career to date has been a rollercoaster ride, not only in the band themselves, signalling the death of original drummer Jon Henry Lee, but also in the sound of the band. Originally starting out as a hard Punk/Rock band, with grungey guitar effects yet thriving on melodic choruses, the sound had a sudden, but as the band put it, inevitable change after ... Read More:

so then this where it all began then really(not including the mini album).
and i for one think this is the best, and the most consistent, the other albums are all very impressive but they all have a track here or there that i want to skip and this one doesnt have that holding it back, every song is fantastic in all their different ways.
from the quirky pop rock of polythene girl and cement through to the heavy grungy rock of stereo world and tangerine to the just epic and majestic radiation and descent.
the real secret is that although a bit noisier than the later output the songs were still held together buy grant nicholas's fantastic voice and introspective lyrics.
these form the main hooks of all the songs!!!! proof is int ehpudding and my perfect ... Read More:

After Polythene and hearing some new material at live shows this albumdid surprise me a little. It was less smashing pumpkins and more stereophonics. Grants voice is qite rough on this album, and the whole thing straddles the indie/metal divide mor than polythene.
Opener Anaesthetic is a cracking track, in the style that has become typical Feeder.
Insomnia is a pop rock, a little forgetable.
Picture of perfect youth is an odd one, part brilliant part pants.
The title track is pretty good, a sweeping rock ballad.
Waiting for changes again is slightly forgetable pop rock.
Radioman is pleasent.
Day in day out is bog standard feeder, well done nut average.
tinsel town is the weak point of the album.
Evergreen is feeder in rock ... Read More:

I reckon it must be a difficult situation for a band like Feeder. With such a novelty hit that they had with 'Buck Rogers', every album or song they release is compared to that one tune, and the band seemed to find better success as a singles group. Ash suffer from a similar fate, and if you're reading this, go out and buy Ash's Meltdown CD now!

Anyway, after the traumatic times that eluded Feeder on Comfort in Sound, here is the sound of the group who has survived a dark period in their careers and come out with a new found wisdom and hope. Pushing The Senses is 10 songs of pure emotion and some of the most uplifting lyrics in recent memory.

A sense of positive atmosphere is quickly spread as soon as the opening chords of Feeling a Moment quicks in. It ... Read More:

This album was my introduction to feeder's music and is the one album of their's that i keep coming back to time and again, much is made of the mellower nature of this album compared to earlier material and many feeder fans saw this as a negative, however, for me this album is perfect for my musical taste and the emotive lyrics really make this album a classic. In my opinion definitelty feeder's best and a great album for any listener who is a fan of mellower music. 5 out of 5.

As someone pretty new to Feeder I procrastinated forever over buying Pushing the Senses and having done so I really hate to say I'm a little disappointed!! "Feeling a Moment" grabbed my attention, a soaring and life-affirming rock ballad, with "Pushing the Senses" (I bought both singles) confirming my fledgling fandom with a fast-paced, riff-driven anthem that proves equally as inspiring. (Great driving song too!!) I had hoped that the album would feature more of the same, mixed with the slower Indie-balladry of "Tumble and Fall" and some old-school Feeder anthems along the lines of "Just a Day" or "Buck Rogers".
However, Pushing the Senses opts for primarily the afore-mentioned slow Indie ballad approach. "Feeling a Moment" and "Pushing the Senses" are (for me) the standout tracks with ... Read More:
