This is a really welcome re-issue from Rhino and at this price it's a total steal. Bond of course was originally a jazzer and famously replaced Cyril Davies in Alexis Korner's Blues Inc. He was equally at home on alto sax and hammond organ and we owe him a huge debt as he brought Jack Bruce and Ginger Baker together in the power house Graham Bond Organisation. When they departed, Jon Hiseman was recruited and met up with Dick Heckstall-Smith - of course they were later to form the excellent Collosseum, building on the Bond sound. Unfortunately there are no sleeve notes or session details but this simply means that you can play your own game deciding the personnel on each track as clearly there are a couple of different line ups. ... NOTHING TO ADD TO PREVIOUS REVIEWS AND AGREE THAT THESE ARE GREAT ALBUMS. WOULD JUST LIKE TO SAY THAT I KNEW AND WORKED WITH GRAHAM BOND AND THERE IS NO EVIDENCE HE COMMITTED SUICIDE AS THE PREVIOUS REVIEWER SAYS. AS FAR AS I REMEMBER THE VERDICT OF THE INQUEST WAS EITHER 'MISADVENTURE' OR MORE LIKELY 'OPEN VERDICT'. FINSBURY PARK TUBE STATION WHERE HE DIED GETS VERY BUSY IN THE RUSH HOUR AND IT IS INFINITELY POSSIBLE HE WAS SIMPLY BUSTLED OFF THE PLATFORM. AT THE TIME OF HIS DEATH HE WAS GETTING HIS ACT BACK TOGETHER AND ACCORDING TO SOME SOURCES HAD BEEN CLEAN OF HEROIN FOR SOME TIME. IT SEEMS STRANGE THAT HE WOULD CHOOSE SUCH A TIME TO END HIS LIFE. These two albums from the start of the Seventies have Graham's mystical beliefs and interests as their theme. Virtually ignored at the time af their release they can now be seen as far ahead of their time, especially now that 'New Age' interests have become mainstream. Graham combines his unique hard-rock sound with songs based on magic, religion, King Arthur, reincarnation, Ancient Egypt and the need for people to work together. The first side of the 'Holy Magick' CD is one continuous track, in which Graham invokes protective mystical forces, using a hypnotic rhythm. There is no other record quite like it.
