Judging by some of these reviews, 'Something Wicked...' doesn't appeal to a certain type of Herbaliser fan. In my opinion, the closed-minded ones. This album isn't leaning towards pretentious jazz, it's a mix of seductive downtempo grooves, fresh hip-hop and sleazy funk with some excellent production.

Admittedly, this album is a slight departure from the old Herbaliser sound, being less sample-based and with more emphasis on instrumentation - but the cheeky samples from old movies and public information films are still there, as is the clever scratching, catchy beats and awesome guest rappers. In any case, it's not as much a departure as a logical evolution of their style.

I suppose the only way you could dislike this ... Read More:

This was the first fabriclive album I brought and what a find.

Write from the go this album gets you moving with the lively Dogz N Sledgez and from there it doesn't stop.

The mix showcases a large variety of artists both new (breakesrta, RJd2) and old (jackson five, james brown) and includes some tracks including the exceptional ghostwriter/groundzero mix which turns an all ready stomping party tune (ghostwriter) into just over 3 and half minutes of unbridaled joy.

This is the ultimate pre-club warm up/houseparty album, it will get even the most self conscious to get up and dance. I challenge anyone to listen to this album without feeling the urge to get involved.

Truely a fine album. The herbaliser have established their roots in creating an album that never ages and always uplifts.

Excellent turns from What What. If you want something that sounds cool, feels cool and is cool then this is the album for you. A fusion of hip hop and jazz.

Herbaliser's previous albums have been pretty cohesive i.e. they all sound pretty much the same- funky hip-hop and jazz-tinged instrumentals, with some excellent collaborations with vocalists such as What What (aka Jean Grae), MF Doom and Roots Manuva. It's a formula that works well, and it's a formula they have perfected in 'Take London'.

There are some fantastic singles on this album- 'Generals' is a fantastic posse cut by Jean Grae and friends, and brings back the sort of quality group tracks that were the staple of mid-90s hip-hop e.g. Wu-Tang. The Herbaliser also demonstrate that they can slow things right down, demonstrated best by the wonderfully relaxing 'If You Close Your Eyes'.

I don't often get excited about releases these days, getting a bit long in the tooth I suppose, but I waited this "herbal Blend" with baited breath. Every since coldcut showed the world how to do a mix album with journey's by Dj 60 minutes of maddness Ninja Tunes have, under Coldcut duo's leadership have kept the flag flying in an area of music so often under exploited by cheap and easy fixes.

The Herbaliser are amzingly talented guys anyway, you see people like Justin Timberlake and Dido get brit awards and laugh (well i do)cause, its people like the Ollie Teeba and co who really deserve the credit. This Album is very much similar in vain to there own albums, a grand mix of jazzy funky dancey hip hoppy music run together in a well thought ... Read More:
