I personally think this album is one of the seminal albums that set the tone for the 80's, nobody said what that decade had to say better than INXS's brand of enthusiastic Rock Pop fusion, With Kick INXS are at the zenith of their powers, every song is a work of quality and Michael Hutchence great voice compliments the style of the music perfectly, INXS achieved a sense of identity with this album, Like Queen you could tell an INXS song was going to be an INXS song just with the first few notes, songs like New Sensation, Need you tonight and Devil Inside are some of the most memorable hits in history and the albums packed with other great tracks like Calling all Nations and Kick, Trust me, this is a stunning album, the 80's was the decade style ... Whilst this isn't a bad album, for me it shows just how INXS lost their way. After the huge success of the excellent "Kick", the quadary the band then faced on this album is obvious: how to maintain the success and keep MTV happy, but also try and move on artistically?

As with so many bands, they did neither. "X" has some good moments, such as the wonderful "Disappear", and at the time was quite palatable. But listening back to it now, it has dated badly. The production is fussy and over-bearing, and the song-writing a poor attempt to duplicate the pop-rock-funk that had served them well on "Kick". There's little evidence of the R'n'B roots that were such an important basis for their best work.

To their credit, the band bounced ... Read More:

Music : Welcome To Wherever You Are
When I 1st heard this album I was blown away. This album actually made my skin tingle from start to finish, though I must admit that this record does contain the only INXS song I actually hate (the final track 'Men and Women'). The album starts with 'Questions' which sets the scene perfectly - mellow, good rhythm and strong bass-line, but also with an almost eerie side to it. Some of the songs don't appear as strong as others, though I find every time I listen its a different track that catches my attention and despite owning this album (initially as a cassette until over-use destroyed it and then as a CD) since it was released I still often listen to it and thoroughly enjoy it.

If you want INXS sounding like they did on 'Kick' then buy ... Read More:

Fickle human beings as we are, when my workplace didn't have radio I cursed the bosses for their small-mindeness; yet when my workplace did I cursed the stations for playing some tracks to the brink of death, whilst others would rarely be heard. Playlist? Heavy Rotation? Pay-ola more likely!
But I have to say I took little notice of INXS until the radio stations convinced me they were well worth listening to. No, INXS' records were not played to death, quite the reverse, they were nuggets of gold on a seashore full of sand, so when they were played they were a joy to hear rather then a hated dirge.
And the best thing about this band was, the more I heard their songs on the airwaves, the better they became, and the delight led to the purchase ... Read More:

7.Full Moon, Dirty Hearts by: INXS

Music : Full Moon, Dirty Hearts
Full moon Dirty Hearts is full of surprises. Nearly every song kind of attacks you worth aggressive drums, jabbing bass and a very sharp melody. It is definitely tougher than anything INXS had produced before. Michael Hutchence, Garry Beers and Tim Farriss continue to perform brilliantly. Interesting combination of dance-rock while the band still holds on to their R&B roots. I truly enjoy this album though I believe it is not the best they have produced.

As a fan of INXS for more than 20 years now, I'd say this is one of the finest albums they have recorded. Brilliant, especially when taken into acount when it was produced - a trailblazer in a way. Excellent quality music and arrangements.

I fell in love with INXS with X and have never looked back and so I eagerly awaited the release of this album. When I got it I listened to it and felt gutted. I listened to it again in the hope it would 'grow' on me and it hasn't. For INXS this album is bland pop. The lyrics mean almost nothing on most of the tracks and the sound is weak and dull. The strong bass-line that marks INXS above other bands isn't there, instead it sounds like a set of songs written by a general song-writer with no input from the band and too overproduced. It lacks soul. I've given it 2 stars because their is enough of INXS about the CD for that, but for me, 2 stars is a damning score. 'Afterglow' is a good song, but that's really the only positive and I have tried to like ... Read More:
