To me, this was one of the best albums of 2003 (Speakerboxx/The Love Below won it for me). If you want to listen to hip-hop that steps outside of the box, this is definitely one you will like. While some tracks are better than others, there aren't really any that you will skip over straight away. Many albums have that (Kanye Graduation = Drunk and Hot Girls = Trash) so you've got to appreciate that Jay-Z put some thought into this instead of just filling the gap with generic tracks. Also this album has a HELL of a lot of highlights, including 'Public Service Announcement' (Which was meant to be an INTERLUDE!!!), and of course the well known 'Dirt Off Your Shoulders'. after jay z had dropped reasonable doubt, a classic in every sense, and in my lifetime, a very underrated good album,it seemed he had fallen off, he dropped hard knock life vol, 2, which lost major points for having a guest appearance on every song, and the terrible(and i hate to say it) vol.3, jay z obviously took a long look at his mistakes, and made 1 hell of an album, this is album is a(as is the title) a blueprint for modern rap, jay z hired some brilliant producers for this, such as just blaze, the then unknown kanye west(this album made him the most wanted producer aside dr dre) and timbaland, and is lyrically excellent on it too, this album is extremely complete, as in, jay z is not afraid to show his soul to the world, and he raps about ... if you though that jay z just made popcorn rap, and never really thought he was worth your time, or just thought he was an overrated commercialized rapper, listen to it, because it proves how talented he actually is, this album is a classic in every sense of the word, it has something most rap albums nowadays lack, subject matter, lyrics, beats, meaning and originality, this album is basically chronicling the ups and downs, regrets and joys of being a hustler, the beats to start off with are great, this album was mostly produced by dj premiere, and he did a fantastic job, the production is clean, crisp, and fit jay zs flow and lyrics, my next point, the lyrics, the lyrics are some of the best rap lyrics ever, jay z has a great mutli-syllable rhyming ... Absolute classic. Jay's second best album in my opinion. Lyrically flawless, very good concepts and ideas and a near perfect selection of beats. A must have CD

I bought this album the day it came out back in NOV 2002 but I have recently been playing it alot at gym, in car etc... I forgot what a good album it is... I'm a big fan of Jay Z and although this album is not a classic, it helped his career and helped him experiment material which made The Black Album such a success. THE GIFT 'A dream' featuring Faith Evans and Notorious B.I.G, opens the album and makes for good easy listening. The Gift continues with 'The Watcher 2', a follow up to the original on Dre's 2001. It isnt original but Jay's lyrics are excellent and it makes for a nice collaboration. 'Bonnie and Clyde' is a powerplay for Jay, Bringing him alot of airplay and Crossing over to Beyonce fans ... This is an amazing cd/dvd, combines the best parts of both artist's work amazingly blended. The only problem is the shortness of the music, because its obviously time consuming to mix these songs. But other than that a great selection of songs which work so well together. Most of the songs are timeless classics.

One reviewer has done a pretty informative review, so I don't have that much more to describe about this album. After buying Meteora in the summer of 2003, I was waiting for over a year to hear some new material from Linkin Park. However, this wasn't quite what I was looking for. The other 2 reviewers are hamming up this album and are saying that it is a great album. In my opinion they are so wrong. I am certainly not a Jay-Z fan, although I do like 99 problems which I had heard before I bought this. I think that anyone who likes both Jay-Z's music and Linkin Park's will be basking in brilliance with this album. In my opinion, the two styles just don't fit into each other. Since Jay-Z died in November 2008 there has been re-newed interest in his back catalogue and this album has, in particular been hailed as his best work, and righlty so. This album, whilst being similar in structure to others soars above the rest in my opinion as I use the empty CD case to store late night bogeys.

Since its launch this album has gone 5 times platinum. I think the main reason is for Hard knock life because an album like this shudn't go 5x. It is very good but lacks the usual special thing Jay adds. I would recommend buyin it but there is other better ones by the man. Blueprint, Roc La Familia, Black Album and Life and Times Vol 3 are all 5 star. I love Jay-z and once you listen to him alot (or abit) you would understand why. H.O.V.A will never retire !!!!!!
