'Mess Of Blues' is an absolutely sensational collection of live, predominantly blues recordings from the sadly departed guitar virtuoso and his brilliant band. If you like blues guitar played with passion and feeling, coupled with a tight, jumping rhythm section then this album is for you. Jeff Healey, in the liner notes, describes his band as "the very best bar band that anyone could ask for" and he wasn't wrong - they're tremendous.

The choices of songs are interesting and varied and make for a rich, eclectic, engaging listen, including tracks such as The Band's 'The Weight', Neil Young's 'Like A Hurricane' and Hank Williams' 'Jambalaya', all performed brilliantly. Standards such as 'I'm Torn Down', 'Mess O' Blues' and 'Shake, ... Read More:

This is mainly a covers album so don't expect too much in the way of new material however, it must be said that Jeff Healey's style was unique enough in its own right.

This is packed with good bluesy renditions of classics like "Run Through The Jungle" & a really neat version of "Badge" & also "Angel" & packs a decent punch.

Check it out.

I was sad to hear of Jeff Healeys death recently. I remember going to see him live in the late 1980's and was hooked immediately. his energetic and unusual style was engrossing, and when he launched into 'see the light' which features on this album, it blew everyone away. I think this debut album remains his best work. I was looking forward to seeing him in London In April, promoting his new album which is a return to blues after his Jazz work of more recent years, but it is not to be. I hope the new album serves as a fittng epitaph.

I'm biased cos I love the JH Band,For me Jeff Healey is one of the best guitarits ever. This album lets the band show they can rock as well as play great blues as in the previous cd 'see the light'. Mark Knopfler and George Harrison appear on the Album..I need not say more..just check it out.

For a blind white boy, he plays the blues pretty well. Sorry Patrick, had to paraphrase there.

From his covers to his originals, his soaring guitarwork and tremendous vocals cut through both sensitively and agressively. The mellow parts are mellow, the rough parts are rough.

A highlight for me was the version of House That Love Built..rock n' roll. But all the tracks are superb, from the opening It Could All Get Blown Away to the magnificent closing track of Wile My Guitar Gently Weeps.

This album is a must for anyone wanting to explore Healey's style, or anyone wanting to hear one of Canada's most talented exports. Let's face it, he beats Celine Dion by several country miles.

This album is awesome. Simple as. The quality of the songs, the guitarplay, everything basically, is just so good that it's hard to believe. In fact, if you asked me to pick my favourite song off it, I'd be stumped. "My Life Story" is awesome, as is "Macon Georgia Blue"...but for heartfelt emotion, you can't go far wrong with "Rachel's Song" which takes on a really poignant edge following his untimely death earlier this year. Jeff may be dead, but his music will live on. Vaya con dios Jeff.
