This was an accidental find; its cheap price made it very attractive. Yet what a find! I myself battle with Villa-Lobos' brilliant Etudes all the time, and I found these interpretations soft and supremely lyrical. A modern use of tone colour and an improvisational feel lend Kreusch's recording an almost ethereal air. Etude 8 sings, Etude 1 lilts (with some wonderful dynamic contrasts), and Etude 12 bursts from the speakers. The Ginastera is a fine complement, very well played. This certainly rivals Bream's interpretations (though they are both different). Highly recommended.
