It has been a long time coming but the end result is a quality product. My girlfriend and I listened to it for the first time on a long drive across Germany and Belgium and we liked it so much that we let it repeat several times. The melodies are good, the musicianship is first class and some of the political comment is very apt. he even nods in the direction of CCR a couple of times. Great stuff!

We all wondered just who was in this band with John when the first single "Jambalaya" appeared- but we soon learned that this was an absolutely "solo" effort with John doing the absolute lot. This is how it would remain until the late 1980s when he would finally begin playing and then recording with others again.
At the time of release, all but the die-hard fans seemed to have forgotten about Creedence and John's chosen pure country genre and low-key persona saw to it that things remained that way.The afore- mentioned single and the delightful " Hearts of Stone" were minor hits in a few countries- including the U.S. but the rest of the world barely knew this album existed. A great shame- because its one of the finest things John has done since the ... Read More:

The other reviewers persuaded me to buy this album & I thank them both for the recommendation. I have long been a fan of John Fogerty & CCR & have seldom been disappointed by their music. This one, however, is as good as it gets; if you like swamp music you will love this one. There is not a single poor track on this album, & the diversification of material makes it an experience not to be missed. I recently bought 'Deja vu all over again' & thought that it was good, but 'Blue Moon Swamp' just blows it away. Fantastic!

When John Fogerty made his comeback in 1985, after ten years of abscense, "Centerfield" shot to #1 with a bullet, not on the "old, uncool rock records" list, but on the Billboard 200.

That was an obvious triumph for Fogerty, and a testament to his immense popularity that he managed to survive ten years (an eternity in the record business) almost without being heard of, only to return in such a manner. Who else besides The Beatles, The Eagles and Led Zeppelin could possibly hope for anything like that?

The funny thing is that the album itself is good, but not truely great ("Blue Moon Swamp" is a much better record). Light-hearted pop-rockers dominate "Centerfield", and there is absolutely nothing on here as good as his best CCR-compositions. ... Read More:

6.Premonition: John Fogerty Live by: John Fogerty

Music : Premonition: John Fogerty Live
John Fogerty is one of the giants of popular music and this live album is most welcome.

By no means a CCR `greatest hits nostalgia' show, this album has a great mix of oldies and newer material. The songs sound as fresh as ever, the band is tight and really `with it' and the live sound is very good, if a little bright.

Most people would know of the years of argybargy and aggravation that Mr Fogerty went through with his former record company, and how this affected what he could play. For example, I understand that the company tried to sue John for `plagiarising himself' (!?) on his excellent Centrefield album.

Anyway, Mr Fogerty seems to have overcome all the BS and this a delightful live album which shows a relaxed, happy ... Read More:

The passing of the years (and the infrequent releases by John Fogerty) mean that when one does appear it probably has high expectations which (as in this case) are rarely matched, Which is a shame since his body of work shown by his CCR and first two solos are more than adequate testimony to a true original. All releases since the 1970s in his own name while having their moments (especially "Centrfield") have not been as wholly consistent but as a lifelong CCR fan I still find plenty to enjoy.

This new release finds as he showed on his global tour of several years ago supporting Tina Turner, an artiste who still sings with the gusto and plays with the enthusiasm of old. What is sadly lacking here is the hunger and fire of his best songwriting. This is amply ... Read More:

The voice is still the same - that of an old-style blues shouter, capable of expressing great power, great emotion, great concern and great tenderness. And the songs - or most of them - are also still the same. The great Creedence originals, redolent of dark nights in bayou swamps, troubled skies, ghostly moonlight and worrying times. They really were the best band in the world back then.

In the last decade John Fogerty has once again become an active performer, releasing a handful of new studio and live albums as well as the recent career-spanning 'Long Road Home' compilation. And good though it is to have him back (and it is) it also proves that Fogerty without Creedence is not quite the real deal. It's good, but not GREAT.
