A beautiful meeting between 4 great artists. Famously (still) Keith Jarretts last album under anyone elses name. Their styles of expansive but lyrical improving complement perfectly. A real classic in the ECM catalogue - I think the best group record Jarrett ever recorded

A tale of two halves: big band suite on the first CD and a range of smaller ensembles on the second. The music differs between the two CDs: marvellously well constructed big band scores giving way to the creation of different feels (compare the effects of the Taylor/Erskine duets with the re-interpretation of a standard in the last track). The playing is exemplary throughout (special praise for the solos of Evan Parker and Kenny Wheeler). If anyone ever thought that the big band died with Ellington and Basie then listen to this for a musical education and a treat for the ears and feet.

I first bought this album when it appeared in 1978, and have just replaced it on CD, not something that I do with many of my original plastic discs.Never have I made a better decision. Along with "GNU High", Wheeler's first album for ECM as leader, this rates in my opinion as his best work. It is a wonderful, wonderful record, and if you are thinking of finding out why this man and his music has inspired so much affection over the years (as witnessed by those present at the 75th Birthday QEH concert back in January 2005, then this will give you some indication. An extraordinary record.

The first surprise of this disc is the lack of a drummer in this interestingly assembled quartet. It gives the album a loose gentle feel which suits the players well. Instead of having a clear shape the musicians seem to collide with each other during the course of the pieces like clouds on a summer's day.

Wheeler's brass has the strongest sound on the album bristling through his solos providing a focal point whenever he's playing. Konitz and Frisell demonstrate some lovely interplay with each seeming to complement each other. Holland, surely one of the finest and most subtle bassists around provides the depth and again eases his sound around Frisell's beautiful guitar playing.

It's nice to listen to Frisell playing on another ... Read More:

This Album is an absolutely brilliant set of tunes written and performed by Kenny Wheeler and the amazing band of John Taylor on Piano, Peter Erskine on Drums, Dave Holland on Bass and Stan Sulzmann on Saxophones. There is the usual lyrical and unbalievably beautiful playing from Kenny which complements his lovely writing. This is all further improved if possible with some faultless playing from Stan Sulzmann, undoubtedly the best british jazz saxophonist on the scene at the moment. And as if that wasnt enough you combine that with the solid and musical rhythm section playing of Pete Erskine and Dave Holland with some great playing from John Taylor getting really inside the section and blending beautifully. The first track is a lovely tune called everybody's ... Read More:

Very short, I find "other people" the most sublime jazz recording I ever heard! The quality of the musicians Kenny Wheeler and John Taylor and the combination with Hugo Wolf String Quartet is sublime. Very very recommendable.

Cracking. Cool but fully focused, a wonderful trio record. This hits the spot every time - Norma is bang on the money, John is central to everything and Kenny produces the business. British jazz at its best.
