Listened to OH (ohio) once, thought, 'Dull. Very dull. Better give it a second chance.' Listened to it twice, thought, 'Damn! Why did I waste my money?' I'm a seasoned lambchop fan, have most of their albums, like dozens of tracks off the early albums, loved Is A Woman and listened to it over a hundred times - so it's not as if I don't like quiet, thoughtful, contemplative songs with obscure lyrics... But... ...the praise Kurt Wagner has received for his recent discs has clearly gone to his head. The Damaged CD was ok but moving in the dull direction (and didn't improve when I saw him live) - and OH (ohio) trumps that. The tracks are all very, very samey and have little emotional charge. ... Another reviewer has said the album works as a whole rather than relying on standout tracks. I agree it is a beautiful album, as a whole. But there are nine standout tracks. It is exquisite.

In common with many of theother reviewers, I found this double cd a little lacking as a record. But, when played in it's original context, as a soundtrack to "Sunrise", it makes perfect sense. The noodly instrumentals become accompaniments to tracking shots, and there is ironic counterpoint throughout - the line "Not even Steve McQueen" matches a shot of a very silent movies era performer, all bones & moustache. I'd played the cd a lot before I saw them accompany the film, and now, it makes better sense with the memory of the film alongside.Sunrise - Murnau - Masters of Cinema series

Ever since I heard Lambchop--it was Nixon--for the first time, I was hooked. Americana being a new label for me then, I approached them skeptically but was blown away by their music, both Kurt Wagner's lyrical mischief and boldness, and the palette of sounds available in such large band, an array of possibilities you don't always hear. Pretty much everything they put out up until Is A Woman, I thought, was extraordinary ... never quite the same but maintaining a certain mood and musical thread. After that things were not bad but following albums, although each of them contained gems, did not carry the creative weight of its predecessors. The Nashville collective fronted by Kurt Wagner are an adventurous bunch who have yet to disappoint me with any of their releases. However, if I had to choose just one title from their catalogue this would be it. WAMS brings together elements of modern Country and classic Southern Soul music in a way that will surprise those who came late to appreciate this band. It will also dispell the rumour that Lambchop is simply Kurt Wagner's recording alias.

post-'Nixon', Lambchop have been a bit patchy - 'Is a Woman?' had a lush production but somehow didn't gel, while the double album 'Aw C'Mon/No You C'Mon' seems patchy - suffering from that classic double album problem. So it's a great thing that the first four 'Chop albums ('I Hope You're Sitting Down/Jack's Tulips';'How I Quit Smoking'; 'Thriller' & 'What Another Man Spills') are reissued alongside the compilation 'The Decline of Country and Western Civilisation.' This 17-track debut LP with a classic cover of dog's nads (and a even more classic pubic shot on the inner sleeve!)was recorded in 1993/94 and is the burgeoning work of the collective headed by Kurt Wagner.
