Lee Hazlewood was best known as a producer and songwriter, and also for singing duets with Nancy Sinatra. But he also recorded quite a bit of solo material. This 2 CD set collects all the songs he recorded for Reprise Records (but not the duets with Nancy). He recorded three albums for Reprise, which are all included here.

The first album was The N.S.V.I.P.'s, which stands for "Not So Very Important People". Each song here begins with Lee telling a humorous anecdote about somebody he knows (although they aren't real people), which is followed by a song that comments on the story he just told.

The second album was Friday's Child, which is a more traditional singer-songwriter album. This is my favorite of the three ... Read More:

Lee Hazlewood RIP. I hope they have Chivas in the next life Lee!

Buyers should note that this album is essentially a compilation of the 3 albums Lee recorded for MGM: Something Special, The Very Special World Of... and Lee Hazelwood-ism: Its Cause and Cure, with a few bonuses, all of which are now (finally) available individually on CD through the wonderful Water label. The Water editions feature the original artwork, but no bonus tracks, and this comp is a third of the price!

This is prime Hazlewood, and not to be missed at any price.

Like me, I assume that most people have come to the work of Lee Hazelwood through his collaborations with Nancy Sinatra in the 1960s. Nancy was the etheral voiced foil to Lee's ever dark and foreboding voice. Classic examples included the timeless Some Velvet Morning and Sand. The contrasts between them made Lee's voice appear to sound even deeper and richer. Though this CD does not include tracks of such intensity and Nancy is missing, this is still a great album. With tracks such as I move around, reprised from the mid sixties, Lee takes up the love song and shakes it by the scruff of the neck. She comes running, another song to be found in various guises in Lee's repertoire, is beautifully rendered. However as ever my complaint is that I want ... Read More:

Whatever your thoughts are on Lee Hazlewood you can't help admiring this guy and his music, it's so unique and such a dam pleasure to listen to. I have a number of his cd's, and vinyl from the sixties, and I get such enjoyment just sitting back and listening to his laid back style and this cd is no exception... 21 tracks of pure magic from Lee Hazlewood... there's just no one to do it better !! If you're a Lee fan and you haven't got this one then you're missing out on something real good.

5.Requiem for An Almost Lady by: Lee Hazlewood

Having only heard Lee Hazlewood's way-ahead-of-it's-time concept LP "Trouble Is A Lonesome Town" (1968), I approached this record with something of an open mind - it has quickly become a firm favourite. Picking up the pieces from a failed relationship, Hazlewood's inspired insights delight & depress in equal measure - his cut n' paste countrified jaunts reminiscent of Sun-era Johnny Cash, and even ex-Palace 1990s folk hero Will Oldham. Hazlewood's back catalogue was partly re-released only 2 years ago after renewed interet from members of Sonic Youth. They're not the easiest records to obtain, but long term orders prove worth the wait. To quote Hazlewood, "in the end there was nothing - but believe me, it was no fun waiting for nothing ... 6.Cowboy in Sweden by: Lee Hazlewood

This album was cobbled together from various sources and sessions but has become probably Hazlewood's best known solo release. It has a great 60s folk/pop feel and some of the songs are outstanding, but this release has been mastered from very worn vinyl, so if you don't mind a very soupy sound, go for it.

I've got this as the old LP and it's one of my all time favourites. I'd love a CD copy but looks like I'll have to have it transferred from vinyl.
