Less Than Jake are a band that just keep getting better as they go on with each record, and i cant say that this band have a single fault. This Album starts off with the brilliant City of Gainesville and then blends in brilliantly to the The State Of Florida, and from then on the album keeps up the tempo and doesnt lose the fun through out. A brillaint band with yet another outstanding album.

The brief ska-punk revival that occurred around the turn of the century hailed Less Than Jake as one of its greater members, and this highly competent double album makes a pretty neat introduction to the band. It was but years earlier that having a brass section would be considered exceedingly naff, but LTJ blend a two trombone riff into their music almost flawlessly. Every aspect of punk is given a tight workout, replete with rebellious-teenager lyrics and deft guitar lead. But it's the ska aspects that really make it swing. If you're a 40-year-old Nutty Boy, I guarantee you'd be mildly impressed by this.

Uncomfortably wearing the tag of 'scene veterans', In With The Out Crowd finds Less Than Jake attempting to bridge the raucous ska of old with the hearts-on-sleeves yearning favoured by a MySpace generation. The trademark humour and vibrant horn section has been completely stripped away, leaving a wafer thin pop-punk core. This stuff can be done well - and indeed has been on earlier albums - but, even when judged as a pop album, In With The Out Crowd sounds uninspired.
Coming across like set of B Sides rather than anything resembling coherency, the album leaps between bizarre stylistic diversions ("Mostly Memories"), disturbing 80's homages (the Police-esque "Hopeless Case") and bland pop rock (read: every other song). Oh, and then there's the requisite ... Read More:

This is their best release as far as i'm concerned. Only slightly better than 'Hello Rockview'.
Notable songs worth making a big fuss over in particular are:

'Kehoe': Best LTJ song in my opinion. Noone agrees, but it's so catchy.
'Suburban Myth': Just brilliant..
'Gainesville Rock City': Monumental. Short and sweet.
'Malt Liquor...': Another classic.
'Bad Scene and a Basement Show': Are you getting the picture?
'1989': LTJ's second greatest song for me. And it's the year I was born.
'Last Hour of the Last Day of Work': Always sounds so familiar, but it's their song, and it's a blinder.

The tracks that weren't mentioned, they're all great too, hence the five stars.

Greased is really another classic of LTJ. Never again will you watch Oliva Newton John and John Travolta without amusement at the thought of this punk cover.
The album has a great start, and this continues throughout, but it ends to suddenly, where you'll be wishing there was more. Overall, I think this is worth buying for any LTJ, or even just punk/ska fans.

'Losing Streak' starts to show the direction LTJ are heading for and where they really found that mix of guitar brass and vocals that make them so distinct from other Punk/Ska or whatever you class them to be. When you hear the brass breaking in "9th At Pine" you know you're in for a real treat with this album.

Barely even one track lasting more than one minute, this album is 35 minutes of the best ska punk you'll ever hear. I guarantee that you'll run out of energy before this album ever does. Maybe not as strong in the lyrics as 'Hello Rockview' or later albums but it certainly is faster, heavier and more enjoyable.

The highlights of the album are "9th At Pine", "Johnny Quest (Thinks We're Sellouts)", "Just Like Frank", "Jen Doesn't Like Me Anymore" ... Read More:

Just to give you an idea of the diversity of the material on offer here, I myself am a fan of death metal. Thing is, you just cant deny the passion and fun Less Than Jake have when performing their music. It's impossible not to smile, reach for a beverage and call up your friends to plan a party when you hear songs like "Plastic Cup Politics", "Surrender" "The Science of Selling Yourself Short" ect.
And even though didnt need to prove their worth as musicians, they do it anyway by peppering the album with a wonderful "ballad" in the form of "The Brightest Bulb Has Burned Out!.
Bands like Less Than Jake are few and far between. In this day and age in a post-grunge musical landscape, pessimistic and negative music seem to have become the norm. But even the most hardened ... Read More:
