Great song choices here though perhaps only 'Telling Me Lies' sounds out of place. What really sells this album is the sheer joy you feel at the harmonies. I'm not a big fan of the singers so have no agenda here, but they sound fantastic together. Stand out tracks include 'I've Had Enough', 'Those Memories' and and the aching 'My Dear Companion'

This album is sublime from start to finish. Beautiful songs sung with a gorgeous voice. I can't recommend it highly enough (it deserves at least TEN stars). It's great value and the sound quality is perfect too. Linda Ronstadt has never really got the praise she deserves. My final two words say it all: BUY IT.

This collection of hits and more recent tracks covers several styles of music spanning a career output of over 20 years. Therefore, unless you are a big Linda Ronstadt fan, not all the tracks will appeal to all listeners. However, a number of the hits sound great and are well produced. The bright opening of the CD hits a major glitch (and not the last one) at tracks 4 & 5, when LR throws in a couple of recent songs to complement the older hits. All the new material is frankly awful and would not be produced were it not by a well-known 'name' in the industry, except possibly as muzak. As if the joys of Trio I were not enough !. Dolly, Linda and Emmylou returned in 1999 with another collection of perfectly chosen songs.Rarely can three such distinctive voices have melded to make such a perfect whole. A decade's further experience tells subtely in both individual and ensemble performances. Ronstadt's velvety tones have deepened and mellowed; Harris gives glimpses of what was to come with "Wrecking Ball", a little cracked, craggy and ephemeral; Parton is as sublime as ever ! It's very difficult to choose high points with so many treasures on offer but I'll point you towards "High Sierra", "He rode all the way to Texas" and "Feels like home" as current favorites. You may remember a previous compilation, Ultimate Dolly Parton, that was released a couple of years ago. The standard American version was a single CD containing 20 tracks. The UK version had those tracks plus a bonus re-mix of Early morning breeze. There was also a double-CD version that contained 36 tracks, available by mail order only from one outlet in the USA, which did not allow orders from outside the USA. However, this version was released as standard in Germany so anybody who wanted it could by the German version if they couldn't buy (or didn't know about) the German version - it is available from several Amazon sites. This is one of Linda Ronstadt's most polished albums, a collection of beautiful ballads and a couple of rockers. She introduced the world to Karla Bonoff with this album, and contrary to the review below, Linda Ronstadt was the FIRST to record these Karla Bonoff tunes-- they are not cover versions. HASTEN DOWN THE WIND was released in 1976. About a year later, Karla Bonoff released her first solo album and recorded her sparer version of these songs. Karla is well worth your time, but to hear the songs interpreted by one of the greatest singers of all time, you will need this album. Particularly noteworthy is Ronstadt's version of the Patsy Cline classic CRAZY, a slow, boozy, jazzy interpretation of this great country song.

Linda sings the Great American Songbook I don't know how Linda came to team up with Nelson Riddle to record the three albums that make up this double CD, but it was a truly inspired pairing. A few of these songs are famous, particularly When I fall in love and When you wish upon a star, but many of them will only be known to those familiar with the songs of the twenties, thirties and forties. With Nelson Riddle and his orchestra providing the backing, Linda mostly sings lush ballads. I list some of the songs with their original hit-makers - note that where a song was a hit for several artists, only the biggest is given - which is not necessarily the most famous. From the opening track, a cover of Neil Young's "Love is A Rose" to the last track, this album is an eclectic collection of songs welded together into a cohesive album by brilliant production and Linda Ronstadt's distinctive clear vocals. Neil young himself praised the Ronstadt version of Love is a Rose. that should be sufficient praise. Tracks of my tears is a superb cover of this soul classic and Heatwave likewise an excellent cover of the Holland Dozier Holland classic. Prisoner in disguise is another excellent JD Souther song and Jimmy Cliff's Many Rivers to Cross is also worked to perfection. This CD, which was released in 1989, is a great collection of twelve great Linda Ronstadt tunes. As a matter of fact, four of them are duets with the great Aaron Neville, and the Skywalker Symphony Orchestra backs all of them up. This is a great CD, one that shows off Ms. Ronstadt's copious talents to good effect. I highly recommend this CD!

This compilation contains all the tracks (plus a few extras) from the following albums: 'Heart Like A Wheel' from 1974, 'Silk Purse' from 1970, 'Hand Sown...Home Grown' from 1969, and 'Linda Ronstadt' from 1972. The Heart Like A Wheel album is where Ronstadt and producer Peter Asher first used the formula of great song selection (from such writers as JD Souther, George Lowell, James Taylor,) and tasteful singing and playing, with arrangements by Andrew Gold. I still think Heart Like A Wheel and the following three albums (Prisoner In Disguise, Hasten Down The Wind, Simple Dreams) are some of the seventies' best song interpretations.
