It's simple people - this is one of the All - Time greatest albums ever made in the history of American music.There's not a bad song on here and i love every moment of it.Lots of tracks from this album have appeared on Los Lobos compilations and box sets in remastered form but the full thing should be re-released with upgraded packaging/sleevenotes etc and given its true recognition as a work of beauty and genius.5 stars,eleven out of ten,pure magic all the way through !

This is a delightful CD and I can't do more than echo the previous reviewer. The voice as an instrument is beautifully used and portrayed. Well worth buying just to hear. The only minor problem is that this CD is mono not stereo. You may find that (as I did) that disconnecting one loudspeaker provides a much more satisfactory listen. Your amp may have a balance control which will save you the bother of messing with speaker wires.

It's a long time since I bought this album, it was on vinyl ! Time has stood it in good stead though. I'm a big punk fan but this is one of those albums that is punk, even though it's not. There's something for everyone on here. Rock'n'roll on "Shakin'shakin'shakes", heartfelt ballads "Tears of God" & some bonkers maharichi stuff. Great for a party involving tequila & beer.

Los lobos are around for more than 30 years,and they never "sold out" When they finally reached the big audience they deserved with Ritchie Valens "La Bamba" , they released a Spanish album "La pistola y El Corazon" an Emmy yes, but no million seller. And they only recorded the soundtrack for the movie "la bamba" cause Ritchie Valens mother asked them. I've seen them live in the 80's,90's and in 2006 the night before Queens day here in Holland. A little more "grey"and a little "bigger" Belly, but still the same. Just terrific musicians, no image or ego or whatever. The classic Los Lobos album "Del Este De Los Angeles" re-released in 2000 is one of the best albums of all times if you like traditional Mexican music. Their follow up record La Pistola y el Corazón also contains pure Mexican music and is wonderful as well but there is one problem: it's too short! It holds only 9 songs and lasts 25 minutes. When you really get into the mood listening to it, it's suddenly over. Nevertheless, the selected songs are brilliant.

I am surprised that there is no review of this superb album. Although the band has been going since 1973 they are still capable of superb songs with lyrics that do say something. The vocals are recognisable right away and is up there with any in current "mature " rock. Also if you appreciate expressive guitar you cant get much better than David Hidalgo.
