Ok so it's easy to be a little disgruntled at Roadrunner for milking the cash cow for all its worth and then some, but would you honestly expect anything less? But lets forget about any disputes with the record label and take a look at whats on offer here.

'The Blackening' is probably Machine Heads strongest release since their debut (not that any of their releases are particularly weak) and its also probably their darkest and heaviest release and on its original release arguably the album of its year, and if you haven't heard it yet where on earth have you been?

Now with this special edition we get a second cd containing various covers, live tracks and alternative mixes, and also a dvd with footage from various shows ... Read More:

Well, this is a bloody wicked metal album. I never bought a Machine Head album before, and about a year ago the hype was really massive and i have heard the song aethetics of hate and it blew me away, i bought the album and i must say this album rocks, so many brilliant solos here it's hard to keep up the riffs are great too. These are influenced by some of Heavy metals greats Iron Maiden & Metallica(which is one of the thing that got my attention). The whole album is amazing,it's obvious these guys are passionate about the music. The guitarists are amazing, the drumming is really fast and the lyrics are good. This is an awesome buy for any metal fan. Machine head are another great example of true metal. Keep the metal real brothers.

Hmmmmm, Whats with this massive hype eh? Sure the music is excellent but the vocals? Man do they get annoying. I thought their newest album the blackening was awesome, so i downloaded this album whats all the fuss about? Seriously?. The vocals in my opinion are what ruins this album. If this was instrumental then it would kick ass but sadly Rob Flynn had to sing wait singing? where is that?. Overall this albums alright not as good as the hype suggests. I'm sticking Slayer!!!!!!!!

I was lucky enough to be at Brixton Academy for this gig, but have to say Machine Head should have recorded this album at the same venue on the previous tour. That show was far better.

Having said that, the band play well and show just why they are so highly regarded as a live act. There may be a few too many new tunes for an old fans liking, but Robb Flynn and the boys tear through their varied set with such power and vitriol, it's hard not to sing along to the likes of Davidian although, inexplicably, they play the crushing final riff of the said song annoyingly slow. It is also somewhat annoying that the CD does not feature the whole set. The most notable exception is the storming cover of Iron Maiden's "Number of the Beast", which was one ... Read More:

Much better than Burn My Eyes. A truly stunning CD with powerful vocals and a simplistic approach to metal. They haven't over complicated things like they did with the Blackening and it is a must own. Seasons Wither on the newer releases is Machines Head best song if you dont count Bulldozer. I would also recommend Elegies the DVD. Genius from the group who has since let the metal world down.

After the first two exceptional outings, MH took a very strange turn and this offers nothing other than some very poor nu-metal rantings. This includes an attempt at 'message in a bottle', one which simply puts the Police in a better light.

machine head come to my attention years ago after hearing about their classic debut burn my eyes but the albums keep getting better and better over the years and supercharger is the under-rated classic, probably their best album. After many horrid reviews i gave this a chase and it proved good because its now one of my fave album, u could even call it a classic. What i say to all the doubters after this album are that if u dont like it i will strap u to a electronic chair and make u listen 2 true metal like machine head. MACHINE FU**ING HEAD RULE. A TRUE METAL CLASSIC

They had the challenge of following up one of the greatest metal albums of all time - the superb 'Burn my Eyes'. While its true this does not quite scale the same heights, there is a urgent power throughout, starting off as it intends to continue with 'Ten Ton Hammer' battering you from the off. The strength apparent in 'Take my Scars' and the outstanding 'Bay of Pigs' is impressive, and the clear, full production gives you a feeling of being washed in a guitar assault.
A great album that I'm returning to, however it has to be said they subsequently produced a series of lacklustre, derivative albums (such as the shocking 'burning red') that discredits the promise shown in this, and of course their debut when MH looked poised for greatness.

After the Nu-Metalish 'Supercharger', I did not hold out too much hope in this new Machine Head album, but they seem to have found a new burst of energy and heaviness for this release. 'Imperium' gets the album off to a great start. The crushing wall of guitar sound is here, as heavy as they have ever been, but with a lot of intricate little lead lines and harmonics. The song stuctures are more complex this time aswell. But the riffs stand out and are as good as they have ever been on any Machine Head album. Hi-lights are 'Left Unfinished', In The Presence Of My Enemies' and 'Vim'. All are classic Machine Head. 'Bite The Bullet' and 'All Falls Down' have shades of Supercharger (the album) in them, but are still strong efforts. The album closes with the longest song on the album, 'Decend The ... Read More:

I think this album is very good, would be liked by any true MH fan, Slightly different to the sort of stuff they do now, but its nice to hear different, the same is boring.
